Jen and the older vampire

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006

As many of you know, the next Sweet Shop update is tomorrow — May 4th at 12 noon PDT — and so here is a teeny tiny preview of a few new colourways…

Yeah, this wasn’t something I had planned… but this was a super special request from my dear friend, Jen. She is making her way through episodes of Buffy for the first time and is completely smitten with Angel. A couple weekends ago, she came over to the house and exclaimed, “Fishy! You have to do an ‘Angel’ colourway!”

Jen, a smart, stylish, high-powered mergers & acquisitions lawyer for a big-time law firm is reduced to girly goofiness by a 250-year old, sometimes Irish, completely fictional vampire… I LOVE IT. That’s what makes Jen completely endearing. How could I say no?

Angel: a little bit of bleeding heart, a lot of brooding.

So please indulge Jen and I in a bit of girly fun. Jen gets a set for her stash and I’m saving a set to knit Jaywalkers but there will be two more sets of Superwash Sock skeins in the shop tomorrow. Plus these…

Another 50 skeins, awaiting their close-ups…

After talking with the server guys yesterday, I’ve hopefully optimized the current server so that it won’t crash again with all those connections (fingers crossed). But in any case, after this shop update, I’ll move the Sweet Shop to it’s own dedicated server! See you tomorrow!

Light at the end of the freaking tunnel.

Tuesday, January 10th, 2006

Could it be? A day of actual sunlight to interrupt all this glorious greyness? Lucky for us and my friend, stylish Jen, that she is getting a day without rain for her house moving this weekend.

Hmm, I’m not sure my eyes will be able to adjust to the light.

But how about this for an even better light at the end of the sucky grey tunnel: the new Spring Rowan preview!!!! Gah!!! This may not be meant to be public yet, but hey, the files are on their server so… this is what I like:

It’s so Spring-y, ruffle-y and girlie… It’s something to look forward to. If you want to see the previews, click here, here or here… And you can also see the official Rebecca preview here… Oh, it’s all making me inappropriately happy for an ugly Vancouver winter…

And finally, this is what is consuming my current Buffy-watching time: Lotus Blossom Shawl in my handspun. Finally, from this…

Up to the end of Chart 2

Of course, I was a silly, silly, silly girl and didn’t swatch for this. Since all my US 7 and US 8 needles were occupied, I picked a US 6 needle… And of course, the shawl is so far so tiny, it might end up as a neckwarmer… So, to hopefully remedy the situation, I’m knitting Chart 2 (stems) twice to make it nice and long…

Happy, but hoarse

Friday, October 28th, 2005

Yep, I left the Pacific Cinematheque just past midnight, happy, but hoarse! Not from the singing, but from all the screaming and hollering throughout both “Hush” and “Once more, with feeling”! See the goodie bag:

I call it, ‘Still Life with Plastic Fangs’

We got bubbles for Tara’s song, “Under your spell”, and the plastic fangs were for Spike’s song, “Rest In Peace” — instructions were to wear the fangs while singing. The lighters were originally for the big “Walk through the fire” group sing, but the organizer found out at the last minute that we weren’t allowed to use lighters in the theatre — the sprinkler system is very sensitive and so we had to use our cell phones instead.

I thought I was a big Joss Whedon fan, but wow, I am not as hardcore as these guys… the Vancouver Firefly/Serenity Meetup group. We sat in the middle of the theatre, surrounded by these fans — two of the girls did an amazing job with their makeup and came dressed as seriously bumpy vampires.

And lest you think that I haven’t been knitting, here’s the little Trellis sweater so far:

Trellis needs sleeves!

The front and back pieces are all done, blocked and seamed. I chose to the three-needle bind off for the shoulders. Now, I’m just working on the sleeves…

Happy weekend!
