Blocking Central Park

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

All the main bits and pieces are done for the Central Park Hoodie… so I’m just blocking the pieces before I seam the shoulders and pick up for the hood.

Two front pieces, blocking
Second sleeve doesn't fit on the blocking board
Too bad, the blocking board doesn’t fit all the pieces. We have to go with the towel-on-carpet method of blocking.

Now, I have to decide on buttons or zipper for the closure… I’m leaning towards buttons.

Happiness is also a finished object

Summer of lace, eh? What else to do when the weather gets (sort of) warm and you want to shrug off all your chores? Watch countless hours of Buffy and knit your lace shawl. So armed with seasons 6 and 7 of Buffy and a full box of kleenex (who knew slaying vampires could be so emotional?) I finished my Paisley Lace Shawl this weekend:

Ah, limited by the blocking board…

Paisley Lace Shawl

  • Pattern: from Spring 2005 Interweave Knits
  • Yarn: Jaggerspun Zephyr in Lilac (50% merino/50% tussah silk)
  • Needles: US 5 / 3.75 mm Addi Turbo’s
  • Changes: none!
  • Finished Measurements: 35″ x 35″ (blocking board was too small!)
  • Zephyr is so soft and springy… and easy to rip back if needed.

Yes, the picot edge trim takes forever, but it’s worth the nice frilly finish that it makes. I’ll be wearing this to a wedding this weekend!

Blocking Board

Wednesday, March 16th, 2005

Everybody loves a good blocking board! I always get questions about my blocking board whenever I show photos that include it. So, no problem! Here’s the info…

I bought the board, called the “Sew E-Z Board”, from an E-bay store called “Memphis Vintage”. I got the larger version of the board which is 30″ x 48″. There’s a smaller version too. The board folds in half for storage. The price for the larger version is about $65 USD. Oh, and shipping was about $20 USD. Marlene at Memphis Vintage is super-nice too and very easy to work with.

Enjoy!!!
