SOAR… I’m actually going.

I *just* finished registering for SOAR… It’ll be my first time attending… so far, feeling a little tingly. It took me 20 minutes of hemming and hawing to finally commit the credit card number and during that time, Judith MacKenzie McCuin’s sessions ALL filled up completely. Ahhh well. I am signed up for Amy King’s Dye Crazy, Abby Franquemont’s Drum Carding, Janel Laidman’s Spinning for Socks, and Deb Menz’s Colour class. The amount of combined wisdom in all the instructors is absolutely insane and I can’t wait to drown in fibre and colour during that Halloween weekend.

Tracy, blending colours and spinning worsted from a comb onto her Matchless. Something we learned from JMM.

Now, time to start organizing the resort lodging and 8.5 hour drive from Vancouver to Oregon! Anyone else going? Did you get everything you wanted and more? Anyone ever been? Suggestions to someone going for the first time?

I hemmed and haaaed over signing up. I’ve got an annual girls weekend the first weekend in November so its a bit of a hard sell – two weekends in a row. But it being so close…its hard.

OH MY – I just took two workshops with Judith MacKenzie McCuin this past Monday/Tuesday. Amazing. So sorry to hear that her workshops at SOAR… are already full. I have never been and, too bad for me, won’t be able to go :(

Spend as little time in your room as possible. Work on getting enough sleep to do the classes justice. Find Jeanine and meet her. Find Marsha and meet her, too. Hang out with the mentors. Buy a Spindlewood laceweight spindle. Try out one of his bottom whorls. Bid at the silent auction. Bring swill wine. Or non swill. Or whatever you drink other than wine. Meet Marcy (I think she is going, and she is the world’s best human.) Prepare to have your brain full by the end of the first day. Know you will be called a SOAR virgin until the minute you leave. It was the best week in my adult life, like summer camp for us.
