Angel at my feet

Somehow, I managed to finish a pair of socks this week. Now that I’ve finished them, I also notice that somehow, I managed to goof one of the heels.

Anyway.

I have finished socks!! Here are the finished Jaywalkers in “Angel”

The best thing about turning 30… Contest

So, with this post I have the rare completed object… and the FIRST EVER sweetgeorgia blog contest! That’s right. That’s like two for one. Lucky you.

In the spirit of my upcoming birthday, I’m hosting a little contest and the prize will be either 2 skeins of superwash sock yarn or a braid of BFL fibre — your choice! You choose the colourway and I’ll dye it for you. All you need to do is leave me a comment starting with “The best thing about turning 30 is…”. The contest will close at midnight on Wednesday, July 19th (i.e. 11:59:59 PM) and we’ll randomly draw the winner.

Happy thoughts, people. Send happy thoughts. =)

The best thing about turning thirty is that once it happens, you don’t have to worry about turning thirty ever again — and it’s really kinda cool to be a “grown-up!”

  2. Mintyfresh says...

The best thing about turning thirty is that 30 is the first sphenic number, the first Giuga number, as well as a square pyramidal number.

  3. Liz K. says...

This is what my mother told me when I turned thirty:

“The best thing about turning 40 is that you are that much closer to 40, which is when you totally stop giving a sh*t what anyone thinks of you.”

And my sister-in-law told me — this is definitely R-rated: “The best thing about turning 30 is that your *rgasms get better and better in your thirties.”

I am very happy to report that she was right.

  4. Robin says...

The best thing about turning 30 is that you are so not in your 20s anymore! ;) Seriously, each decade of life brings more contentment, happiness, and just plain knowing about what you want and don’t want in life. Congratulations!

  5. Marlana says...

The best thing about turning 30 is being allowed to do what you want and not apologizing for it.

I hope you have a lovely 30th birthday.

  6. nikki says...

When you’re 29 you look old for being in your 20’s. When you turn 30, it starts over. You’re the hottest young thing of all the real grown-ups.

  7. PumpkinMama says...

The best thing about turning 30 is that you have just spent one more decade exploring and figuring out who you are, and what you want, and you have more tools to accomplish your goals. Seriously, I have never felt more at home with myself and who I am than I have in my 30s. Happy Birthday.

  8. Joni says...

The best thing about turning 30 is all the yarn you get for your birthday! The trick is you have to pretend to everyone that it bothers you…I turned 30 last year and did my best to pretend I felt badly about it. I got so much great sock yarn for gifts! Also I feel so much more sexy since I turned 30.

  9. Su says...

The best thing about turning 30 is that you can start telling all the “when I was young…” stories to all those “kids” out there. … “When I was young, there was only one lys in the city! Not like there is today!….”

  10. Jessie says...

The best thing about turning 30 … is that you’re no longer 29! Seriously, the 9’s suck. You have to spend a whole year anticipating that you’re about to be X0 years old! Then your birthday comes and wham, no more anticipation or dread, you are what you are and you can get on with life!

  11. Jean says...

The best thing about turning 30 is still having the feeling you had at 23, that you can take on the world–with the added humility, wisdom, and finances to make your mark with a little more comfort and a lot more style. Happy Birthday (from someone who’s celebrated great friends this year, and who’s on her way there, too:)!!

  12. Ann says...

The best thing about turning thirty (I’m told — mine comes in about 2 months) is that you can turn 30 as many times as you want. (A friend of mine is now on her third 30th birthday party.) No big milestones until 35!

  13. Cyndi says...

The best thing about turning 30 is looking forward to all the amazing experiences you are going to have in the next 10 years. (and you don’t have another milestone birthday to worry about for 10 more years either!)

    Also - love the socks!

  14. Carmen says...

The best thing about turning thirty is now knowing that you want to weave!

  15. Heather says...

What I’ve liked better about my 30’s is being old enough to know what you want, and young enough to get away with doing it! :)

  16. Sarah says...

The best thing about turning thirty is having those “young adult” mistakes behind you, the wisdom and experience you gained from those mistakes, and the ability to look back and laugh at them. You’re at the point where you have a good grasp on who you are and what you want out of life, and you are grown-up enough to go get it.

I’m not 30 yet, but I’m kinda looking forward to it after reading all these great comments!

Hope you have a fantastic birthday!

  17. Ingrid says...

The best thing about turning 30 is …

you have good sense and the strength enough to act like it.

  18. Rebecca says...

The best thing about turning 30 is …

that you are still young enough to do all those crazy things you’ve ever dreamed of but now you are wise enough to know which will kill you and which will not.

    Happy Upcoming Birthday!

  19. Helene says...

The best thing about turning 30 is all the delishious fiber presents you get from all your knitbuds!

AND you don’t have to do all the stupid mistakes that the 20’s are filled with. You’ve got all the experience, and you’re still young enough to have tons of fun! Never forget to fill every day with play ;-)

  20. ~Kristie says...

The best thing about turning thirty is …

People don’t think what you’re currently doing is just a “20-something passing trend”

    You’re not turning forty

  21. Cathy says...

    Great socks!

The best thing about turning 30 is that you’re still young enough to do wild and crazy things, but old enough to enjoy the wisdom that keeps you from doing stupid things.

  22. Kristi aka Fiber Fool says...

I just turned 30 in April so I don’t have a ton of experience here (really, I can’t tell that it is any different than last year) but I got to celebrate in style with knitting friends and non-knitting friends by enjoy high tea at a nearby tea house. So my suggestion is that is a great excuse for a special celebration you wouldn’t normally put together; whether it is dining out somewhere special with your closest pals or rounding up everyone you know for some games of mini-golf and go kart races.

  23. Maud says...

The best thing about turning 30 is that the world is still open for you, but you have tons of more experience than you had when you turned 20. Happy birthday to you! I hope you’ll have a good day! And your sock is beautiful!

  24. Liz says...

The best thing about turning 30 is you begin to feel comfortable in your own skin as an adult.

… or so they tell me! I’m only 28!

    Beautiful jaywalkers, Felicia!

  25. lanea says...

So, my pat answer (and this is really optimistic, though it may seem pessimistic) is that the best thing about turning 30 is the same as the best thing about every birthday–having a birthday means you are alive. It’s that simple. Any and all worry about aging, no matter what number of years you reach, takes time away from revelling in just being freaking alive. Not. Dead. Yet. Yayyyyy! Not dead! It’s the source of all joy, as far as I’m concerned. I preferred 30 to dead, and 31 to dead, and 32 to dead, and I’m really looking forward to 33, because I’ll be alive when I get there.

I want to make it to 100, and I think being happy about aging, instead of sad, is the secret. I’m earning these wrinkles and memories, and I’m damn sure gonna be proud of the joy and work it took to make them.

  26. Stephanie says...

The best thing about turning 30 is being ok with who you are (and the great birthday party doesn’t hurt either). Love the Jaywalkers.

  27. Michele Smith says...

The best thing about turning 30 is being old enough that your co-workers forget your age. (At least, that’s what I’m hoping will happen in 8 months.)

  28. Kelly says...

The best thing about turning thirty is that thirty is the new twenty (you know, like forty is the new thirty, etc.). So, you basically get to relive that decade. Happy Birthday: )

  29. dana says...

The best thing about turning thirty is that when some event bores you (barhopping, seeing stupid movies, or anything else you don’t want to do), you can say “Oh, I’m too old for that!” and your younger friends will say, quite seriously, “Oh, I guess you’re right!”. I call it “playing the age card”.

  30. P says...

The best thing about turning 30 is that it is a great excuse to throw a rockin’ party for yourself.

  31. Jayme says...

The best thing about turning 30 is…

…you get a 15% disocount at my LYS (Uniquities in Vienna, VA). No affiliation I just love the store and think their personal birthday sale (1/2 your age % off ) is a great excuse to increase the stash.

  32. Donna says...

The best part of turning thirty, by far, is being able to say “I don’t have to [fill in twentysomething behavior which seems spontaneous and fun, but might actually be annoying, dangerous or obnoxious, i.e. skydiving, smoking because your friends are doing it, or public drunkeness)].” Leaving peer pressure behind is a beautiful thing. Have a very happy birthday - I loved thirty.

  33. Roxanne says...

The best thing about turning 30 is you’re no longer so young you’re just that — young, and you’re just old enough to gain some respect in the adult world. It’s a good age to turn - enjoy it!

  34. liz says...

The best thing about turning 30 is…I don’t know, I’m not going to be 30 until October. You’ll have to tell me what the best thing is!

Enjoy your birthday - have a huge party and lots of cake!

  35. Linda says...

The best thing about turning 30 is that the sex gets better!!! Now I know what I want and how to ask for it.

  36. cedar wallace says...

the best thing about turning thirty is that you are not turning 60, and wondering how you will live long enough to use all that fibre…at thirty you can still buy every fibre you love, at 60 you are still buying all that fibre but also planning on who will get it if you die before you use it all…lol

  37. Jenn says...

The best thing about tuning thirty is that you will be an official grown up.

    Happy Happy Birthday !

  38. Karen says...

The best thing about turning 30 is…it’s not 40!

  39. christie says...

Yes, I agree with the young enough/old enough statements. They are TOTALLY true.

For me, the best thing about being 30 is my self confidence. Sure I still am concerned how I appear, but compared to my 20’s I’m so much more self assured. I’m not so concerned if that cute guy is looking at me or pretending to be anything that I’m not. I am who I am…take me or leave me.

Welcome to your 30’s. You’ll enjoy them!

  40. Rebekkah says...

    Happy Birthday!

The best thing about turning 30 is that you can do so proudly, and thumb your nose at the silly people who insist on being 29 forever. Go 30! (I’ll join you there in January. :)

  41. Cheryl says...

The best thing about turning 30 is having something to blame everything on. Now you can say “Every since I turned 30 my metabolism has slowed right down!” or “Ever since I turned thirty I just love watching Roseanne reruns” or “Ever since I turned thirty I’ve had this addiction to ice cream”. It’s very freeing.

  42. Liz says...

The best thing about turning 30 is you’re finally “grown and sexy”! :-)

  43. Jenn says...

The best thing about turning 30 is that you’re officially a “grown-up” without really being “old.” :) Happy Birthday!

  44. Susan says...

The best thing about turning 30 is that you finally have the personal strength to call people out when they’re being either obnoxious or just plain absurd, because you no longer care as much about what other people think of you when you’re demonstrating your strength & intelligence…..and another fairly decent thing is that once you’re thirty all of those “oh, you’re just still a BABY!” comments finally start to sound good instead of like a dismissive pat on the head……

  45. trek says...

The best thing about turning 30 was that Number Guy did it two years before I did!

  46. Rise says...

The best thing about turning 30 is realizing that in dog years you’re only 4!

  47. chawne says...

The best thing about turning thirty is that you’re not yet forty. Well, actually, it’s just that you’re thirty and the suspense is over.

29 was the hard one for me. I couldn’t figure out how to find a man, get married, have kids, and save the world in 365 days in order to become satisfied in time for my 30th. A 60 year-old friend slapped me out of the frenzy by just blatantly laughing at me. After that, 30 was a breeze.

  48. Sandy says...

The best thing about turning 30 is that you still have over half your life left and you’ve learned so much!

30 was a good year for me!

The best thing about turning 30 is that you’ve already accomplished so much, and yet the best years of your life still lie ahead of you (one hopes this is true of every birthday, right?)!

  51. gleek says...

the best thing about turning 30 is that you can then blame any little ache or pain in your body on the fact that you are now 30. for example, “god, my back is killing me! my body’s gone to crap since i turned 30.” :)

welcome to my decade. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

  52. Eve says...

The best thing about turning 30 is that I don’t have to do it for another 8 years.

PS. I also got married when I was 30. :)

Happy birthday, Felicia! May it be wond’rous year for you!

  75. Esther says...

The best thing about turning 30 is that you’re the youngest in your decade all over again! You get the chance to be precocious again!

  76. Anne says...

Speaking as someone in their mid-twenties (and not really nearing the end of the decade anytime soon), I’d say the best thing about turning 30 is NOT being in your twenties anymore - it’s the most overtalked-about, overrated, irritating decade - you’re stuck between not being a teenager and not really (wanting to be) a grownup. Ugh.

  77. Mary says...

The best thing about turning 30 is…

that I can’t wait to get there myself, so my friends can also be there and stop acting like self absorbed kids in their 20’s. :)

The best thing about turning 30 is …

suddenly being taken seriously for no discernible reason. ;)

  79. Amanda says...

The best thing about turning 30 is that you don’t have to keep doing that crazy arm circling, falling in routine that you see on cartoons cause you have already fallen in. Wait, you don’t watch cartoons? You don’t have Acme Company bottle rockets ready to jet you back safely into your 20s? Oh dear, well then I don’t know, but I can say I like my 30s.

  80. Janice in GA says...

The best thing about turning 30 is that you can now read this poem and understand it:

A Lady Who Thinks She Is Thirty by Ogden Nash Unwillingly Miranda wakes, Feels the sun with terror, One unwilling step she takes, Shuddering to the mirror.

Miranda in Miranda’s sight Is old and gray and dirty; Twenty-nine she was last night; This morning she is thirty.

Shining like the morning star, Like the twilight shining, Haunted by a calendar, Miranda is a-pining.

Silly girl, silver girl, Draw the mirror toward you; Time who makes the years to whirl Adorned as he adored you.

Time is timelessness for you; Calendars for the human; What’s a year, or thirty, to Loveliness made woman?

Oh, Night will not see thirty again, Yet soft her wing, Miranda; Pick up your glass and tell me, then– How old is Spring, Miranda?

    :)

Janice in GA significantly older than 30

  81. Ar in Rainy Seattle says...

  82. Khat says...

Happy Birthday! I’ve never posted before but have been reading your wonderful blog for a while. I love your sense of color and artistry.

I have yet to turn 30, but from what friends have told me, people finally take your ideas seriously. In my family turning 30 will mean I finally get to leave the kids table at holiday dinners.

  83. Dixie's Mom says...

The best thing about turning 30 is that your 20s are over! Seriously, they are overrated and far too stressful, and you get so much more respect for no apparent reason as soon as you turn 30!

(but you can still obsess about unattainable, nay, imaginary men like I do about Angel, heh heh….well, yes, I like Spike too now….)

    Happy Birthday!

The best thing about turning 30 is knowing that you had spent the last 30 years learning from what you had been, liberating yourself and blossoming into what you are now; with much wisdom, maturity, and level-headedness about life. And knowing that you will be spending the next 30 years with more enthusiasm for life, love and friendship amongst your family, friends, and people that you touch and have touched your being. You will appreciate what you are instead of what you could have been and strive for what you want to be.

Happy Birthday Felicia, I too just turned 30 last November and it was a great day for me as I look forward to the future. And you have so much going for you. Enjoy the day!

When I was in my twenties, my (unfortunate) catch-phrase was, “What am I not figuring out?”

The best thing about turning 30 was realizing what I was not figuring out. IE, I was finally figuring “it” out. And you will, too.

The best thing about turning 45, like I am tomorrow, is being glad that I’m not turning 30. At 30 I had 3 kids under 5 years of age, which was actually lots of fun, but now those three are 21, 19 and 16. I love my life and my family and don’t regret a single moment. Happy birthday!

Actually, the best thing about turning 30 is starting to live your life rather than waiting to live your life.

  114. anne says...

the best thing about turning thirty is that zero on the end of the number‚Äîclean slate, new decade, new maturity‚Äîit’s like a window you can fly through, away from adolescence!

i can only laugh now over the boyfriend who broke up a 7-year-long relationship with me that year because i was “getting older and he was still a young man” (he was 29). he thought i would be devastated . . . poor chap

i LOVE that angel colorway!! tough and cool and womanly

The best thing about turning 30 (and I did just 6 days ago!!) is looking back over the past 30 years and thinking ‘wow, I really accomplished all that?’. Celebrating the fact that I’m still here on this mortal coil, divorced, with 3 kids, and halfway through a nursing degree - bring n the next 30 years!!!

  118. Sarah says...

The best part about turning 30 for me was that I no longer felt pushed to accomplish everything important by the time I turned 30. I realized that the most important accomplishments come later in life and that HOW I get there is more important than when. Now it’s time to enjoy the journey.

    Happy 30!

  119. Jen da Purse-Ho says...

The best thing about turning 30…

is realizing you have come into your own. You are no longer a young adult, but a knowledgeable adult. People will ask you for advice rather than just dismissing you because of your age. :)

    happy birthday.

  122. zeska says...

Best thing about turning 30 is that you are now old enough to do anything you really want to and still young enough to be able to!

And oh those are a seriously pretty pair of socks!

  123. meowgirl says...

the best thing about the day you turn thirty is realizing you feel no more, no less than yesterday, a week ago, a month ago–when you were 29; realizing who you are is more solid than the number 30.

  124. mandy says...

The best thing about turning thirty is being old enough to realize how young you really are. Forget winning the contest, this is totally true. You have enough years behind you that the future isn’t just a vague theory, it’s something that has a more tangible meaning than it did when you were twenty. You have a better sense of what all those decades ahead of you really mean, and how much you can fit into them. At least, that’s what it has meant to me. I am very happy to be in my thirties now.

I hope thirty will be wonderful for you, too, though I’m sure you’ll get different things out of it than I have. Congratulations. :)

  125. Christine says...

The best thing about turning thirty is that being thirty is considered to be the new being twenty!! Have a nice birthday!

The best thing about turning thirty is you realise how good life really is and you start accepting your body as it is. 31 is the one to look out for…

  127. Evelina Piorunek says...

The best thing about thurning 30 is that it’s still three years away. By far the best news since I have released myself from a stifling releationship, which has kept me locked up in martyrdom for the past ten years. I will not turn 30 unhappy, bitter, and sad…longing to recaputre lost time. I look forward to the next three years of investing in myself in a way I never felt the courage to, while playing the part of an ornament on a man’s trophy wall. The 30th will be an unforgettable bash. YOU’RE ALL INVITED.

  128. reluctantMANGO says...

The best thing about turning 30 is that it is a new beginning! You have your whole adult life ahead of you to do with what you will. That, for me, is such a thrilling prospect. Hope you have a wonderful birthday!

  131. Kathleen says...

The socks look great. I just love the way the heel turned out. Turned. Ha. :) For me, the best thing about turning 30 was acutally being 30. Having had my children kind of young…I lied up all the time…I am almost 30…

    Happy Birthday!!

  132. Amy says...

The best thing for me about turning 30 was the credibility you instantly gain. You’re not in your 20’s anymore, and for some reason it seems suddenly you’re finally a member of the fraternal order of grown-ups. I found this was especially true in my work life.

Happy 30th, and send me some yarn! :)

  133. Sarah says...

The best thing about turning 30 is (I just did 2 months ago) having a baby face and a big girl brain. It feels good getting carded while buying beer, but if someone gives you guff, you can tell them “listen, I am a 30 year old woman and I won’t be spoken to in that way”, and other such high horses.

  134. betzig says...

The best thing about turning 30 is knowing better but doing it anyway. You have the experience and the youth to still get crazy every so often.

Happy birthday! As far as I can tell, it only seems to get better…I’ll let you know if anything changes when I hit 40. :-)

  135. Dawn Hilty says...

The best thing about turning 30 is that next year you’ll be turning 29! (followed by 28, 27, 26 and 25 before counting forward again. heh)

  136. vanessa says...

The Best thing about turning 30 is you have an excuse to throw your self the biggest funnest self absorbed birthday party ever!

I did- I threw two b/c my birthday landed on a Weds. One, a beach picnic party on the first weekend, and the other, a city lounge bar party the next weekend. Plus I took Weds off to do things just for me and got champange and homemade cake made by a friend first thing weds morning and a scallop curry dinner made by my husband that night.

So yeah- it is the best excuse to go all out and celebrate you!

    Happy happy.

( mine is Sunday… Cancers rule)

  137. Emily says...

I just turned 37 three days ago. The best thing about starting my 30’s was that not only did I suddenly find I had the courage to pursue what I really wanted, but I was also no longer distracted by other things and other paths. I finally knew exactly what was important to my life (my family, teaching, writing) and what was just superfluous (a big house, fancy car, exotic vacations). At 30 I was finally able to shed what I thought were everyone else’s expectations of me and do the thing that I really wanted to do. I went back to school to finish my undergraduate degree and this fall I will be starting my phd. It was for me and me alone - and it was the best decision I have every made.

And let me just say - your 30’s get better and better. I look at my life now and I find joy in every part of it. I am sure it will be the same for you.

P.S. The very, very best thing about turning 30 is that you are old enough to feel like a sexy and mysterious Mrs. Robinson to the cute grocery store clerks and young enough to still be a Bond girl. Enjoy being 30 - it’s a fabulous age. Happy Birthday!

  138. Amanda says...

The best thing about turning 30 is….

NOTHING. Don’t let them all fool you! LOL! You could just say you are forever 29 and be done with it. :)

Love the Jaywalkers. They are BEAUTIFUL!

    Have a very happy birthday!

  139. Lizzy B says...

    First off, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

And secondly, the best thing about turning 30 is that life just keeps getting better and better. I think that others will perceive differently at 30 than you will perceive yourself. People will have more confidence in your authority and they’ll take you more seriously which is great when it comes to being successful, and when you want to be silly it’s not frowned upon as much as it is in “your 20’s”. Istead of being seen and being immature it’s simply having fun. A lot of doors open in your 30’s that may have been closed in your 20’s. Again mostly it’s other people’s perceptions that will change, not how you perceive yourself.

  140. amy says...

the best thing about turning 30, especially these days, is being both old and young enough to enjoy life to the very fullest! =]

  141. Liz says...

The best thing about turning 30 is that you are no longer in “twenty-something” land, and still feeling sprite and knowing that your life just gets better and better, and you feel more and more sure inside yourself…

The best thing about turning thirty is …. yipes, it’s been so long I’ve forgotton! Is your memory still intact?

  143. Cathy says...

Wow. Look at all the comments! That has to be one of the best things about turning 30! Looking back, I see so many 30 yrs have a 2nd adolesence - younger then they thought they would be in their early 30s and old enough to know better. It’s a lot of fun to watch. Happy BD!

  144. Kristine says...

The best thing about turning thirty is that 30 is the new 20! You’re still young and vivacious, but old enough to know better!

  145. Kim says...

Having just turned 30 on Sunday, here’s what I’ve got:

The best part about turning 30 is looking forward to your 30s, as compared to your 20s. I don’t know about you, but when I turned 20 I had no idea about anything — what I wanted to be when I grew up, what I liked, what I disliked, which end was up. Going into my 30s, I’ve got it covered and it’s a lovely, lovely feeling.

    Happy birthday!

  146. daisyfaye says...

  148. blossom says...

    happy birthday!!

for me, the best thing about turning thirty is realizing that how old you are matters less than who you have become from the experience and acquiring the ability to grow into who you want yourself to be in the future.

i love growing old and gaining wisdom. it is the best part of living a life.

  149. Kathy says...

The best thing about turning 30 is being old enough to be taken seriously, but still young enough to enjoy your youth! Seriously - my 30’s have been amazing and wonderful - you’ll love them!! I’m leaving mine come October - I sure hope there are this many ‘best things about turning 40′!!!

And you KNOW I love those socks!! The Jaywalker pattern really shows off the yarn. That pattern would also probably be great for some Spike Yarn too… don’t ya think?? ;)

PS - when is the next sweetshop update??

  150. stacey says...

The best thing about thirty is you get to get a Hallmark card with your age on it again! The big 3-0!!

    I love your socks!!

  151. Frith says...

The best thing about turning 30 is…

you can start lying about your age.

Happy birthday, Felicia! You’ve really been an inspiration to me.

  152. Julia says...

The best part about turning 30? Hell, I don’t know, I turned 50 in March and I can’t say that I remember 30 being such a big deal. I do know that at 30 you still have your looks and energy and a bit more credibility in the world, but honestly, I’m not sure turning any age in particular beats just having a party and feeling special at least one day a year. Happy Birthday and have some fun!

  153. Elizabeth H. says...

The best thing about turning 30 is: 1- you’re finally an adult, and 2- your 20’s are behind you.

  154. Ana says...

The best thing about turning 30 is that you are finally comfortable in your own skin, you care less about what others think of you and your actions… you are finally only yoursefl!

  155. Willa Jean says...

The best thing about turning thirty is that you ARE turning thirty. Consider the alternative. Then celebrate all that you have and are!

  156. Gina D. says...

The best thing about turning 30 is that you can host your own birthday party and not care what anyone thinks! I’m in my early 40’s and love who I am becoming with each passing year! I am comfortable with who I’ve been in the past and who I am becoming as I get older. Happy Birthday and enjoy your day!

  157. Meg says...

The best thing about turning 30 is not only being old enough to understand what’s important in life (i.e. family, artistic pursuits, ethics, and happiness, and not money and power), but also being mature enough to finally allow yourself the freedom to pursue those important things.

  158. Holly says...

The best thing about you turning 30 is this great contest. Really cool way to celebrate the day. Those who have reached it are releaved and those approaching are dreading it. The 30 were the best decade, next to the early 40’s of which I am. Happy Birthday. Great blog.

  159. Jasmin says...

The best thing about turning 30 is you never have to act like it unless you really want to.

  160. Laura says...

Ahh. Thirty. I apparently can’t remember if I’ve turned thirty yet because I seriously keep telling people I’m 29. Seriously. And it’s not intentional. And I’ve been past 30 for a good while now.

The best thing about turning 30 is that you’re not a kid any more. All of those learning years in your 20’s are behind you and you kinda get to sit back and think “wow, adulthood is good” in a much different way than you did when you turned 18 and 21. And, if parenthood is in your future, it’s so much sweeter. Youth truly is wasted on the young. Everything is better past 30. Have a wonderful 30th birthday and may you enjoy every pleasure that life has to offer. :)

  161. Cheryl says...

Embarking on your 30th year is great because it’s the birthday you’re celebrating right here and right now‚Äîthere will be so many wonderful things worth celebrating to mark this milestone. Next year, 31 will be great as well, but for completely different reasons for you will have had an entire year of life experience to make it memorable and unique.

Beannachta?? Breithlae (birthday wishes) from across the sea!

  162. Zoe says...

The best thing about turning 30 is that you are still young enough to act immature, but now you probably have more money than when you were 20. Happy b-day!

  163. Uli says...

The best thing about turning 30 is that you get to count it as your first anniversary of being 29. :-) No really, 30 is pretty cool. I dreaded it……. but the 30s turned out great. I get to enjoy them for a couple more years.

  164. Heather says...

The best thing about turning thirty, I find (and I just did two months ago), was expressed in a blog that I can no longer find, unfortunately. To paraphrase: when you’re forced to deal with juvenile b.s. from others, you can say (to yourself or aloud, as you please), “I don’t have to deal with this crap; I’m thirty, for god’s sake.” Makes me feel better every time.

Also, it really is good to be an actual adult instead of the proto-adulthood of your twenties.

Buck up, and welcome to your thirties! Trust me…you’re gonna love it here!

  165. Kel says...

The best thing about turning thirty is being thirty! Especially for a woman, the instant you are 30 you are immediately taken more seriously, viewed as more wise and sexier, more confident and more of a woman then those damnned confusing twenties! Happy birthday, and nice socks!

  166. bunchkin says...

The best thing about turning thirty is… your parents finally taking your opinions seriously. Maybe.

Your Jaywalker socks are beautiful! The colours worked out perfectly the way they repeated so nicely.

  170. Nicole says...

The best part about turning thirty is moving from being a “Friends” cliche into a “Sex and the City Cliche.”

And great socks! I love the colors! Yummy.

  171. Becky says...

The best thing about turning thirty is that you’ve still got ten whole years before you turn forty. Those ten years are rockin’. You will enjoy them more than your twenties!

  172. Dipsy says...

The best thing about turning thirty is… not being 29 anymore :) Really! And I absolutely love your socks, fantastic colorline!

  173. freshisle says...

The best thing about turning 30 is wisdom. There’s something about turning 30 that will make you feel wiser, more knowledgeable, more together. I don’t know if I actually was (ha-ha), but at least that’s how I felt!! Hope you have a lovely birthday.

  174. Shannon says...

The best thing about turning thirty, for me, was that I realized if I wanted to learn to knit socks, no matter how silly it might seem to non-knitters, I by God had the right to do whatever I wanted to do, so I was going to learn to knit socks. By 30, I had taken care of myself for nearly a decade. I had loved wisely but not too well, become aware of what was significant for me, had a great job and a crappy job, worked for causes I believed in and ignored those who disagree with me, and settled on a decent hairstyle. I realized I had earned the right to stop seeing myself through others’ eyes and to do what I thought was best for me. So I learned to knit socks. And I was, and am, very happy.

  175. melissa Wright says...

?The best thing about turning 30 is you’re not 29 any more

  176. Trish says...

The best thing about turning 30 is that you finally know who you are. You have good friends, not just transient ones, and you are finally respected as an adult. You have accomplished something with your life and are respected for it, but you also can be secure in the knowledge that you still have so far to go and so many wonderful things to do. The best part about 30? The freedom and confidence that comes with it.

  177. Beth S. says...

There is so much to be said for entering the thirties, but I’ll narrow it down to this: that you will find yourself beginning to synthesize all the life lessons you learned in your twenties and making better decisions as a result. I think you’ll find that you feel much healthier emotionally than you did in your twenties. Maybe not right away–29 and 30 aren’t radically different, after all–but do look for it to happen. (Unless of course you are already perfectly well-adjusted. ;-)

  178. Amanda says...

The best thing about turning 30 is . . . it beats the alternative!

  183. Elli says...

Happy early birthday Felicia! I have no idea what the best thing about turning thirty is (not quite there yet), but judging from all the wonderful things everyone else is saying about it, you’ll find your own reasons for loving it. I wish you lots of happiness!

  184. Miss Twiss says...

This comment entry marks 185! Wow, you have to read 185… I like MintyFresh’s and mine of course, but that’s just my 2 cents. Have fun-fun-fun reading on your birthday!

  185. Evelyn says...

Love the socks! Best thing about turning 30 is you’re not too old and not too young - it’s the perfect age. You have the means (not just money, but experience) to do what you want and the energy to do it! Have a fun birthday and celebrate!

  186. Hanna says...

I turned 30 in April this year and by all the yarn you use and dye and make I would’ve never thought you would be as young as me!

The best thing about turning 30 was my 30-year-old-crise wish resulted in me getting a cat that I named Smilla. She is my baby and everything and she loves to help me with the pointy sticks when I knit! :-)

take care and hope you had a great birthday!

the only thing better than turning 30 is turning 40, and 50… that’s only as far as i’ve gotten ;-)

  193. Monika says...

The best thing about turning 30 is - that it’s not 40 or 50 or 60 …. Happy Birthday!

  194. Susan says...

The best thing about turning 30 is that you don’t have to deal with all the crapola of the ’20s - worrying about what others think, striking out on your own with all the good but also the bad (stress) that can bring. Your 30s bring so much more good and less of the bad… and 40s even better. But the 30s is just the beginning of all the good stuff: greater self-assurance, not giving a flying fig about what others think, and just enjoying independence, interdependence, and introspection. Happy birthday! You’re at a super-duper great age! And it only gets better.

  195. Heather says...

The best thing about turning 30 is…

…you’re still the same person you were when you were 29. Happy birthday!!

The best thing about turning 30 is leaving the preconcieved notions that people have about people in their 20’s behind.

    Happy Birthday!

  197. Rachel says...

The best thing about turning 30 is… it hasn’t happened to me yet. but it’s just a number. i mean, if we had some other number system besides base 10, 30 or 40 or 50 wouldn’t have nearly so much meaning, right? i love your jaywalkers! those colors look great knitted up.

  198. Lolly says...

HI Felicia! The new Jaywalkers turned out very well - I am fond of those colors all together. Great work :)

And a very happy birthday to you! So many good sentiments have already been written (I read through them all!) and I can’t think of one to add, so I hope the day is very special! Best wishes!! :)

  199. Joanna says...

I love your socks! The best thing about turning 30 is that I’ve never looked and felt better and younger and prettier than right now! (And so say many women I know about their state of mind after turning 30! ^^)

  206. Elizabeth says...

I know it’s been said before, but the best thing about turning 30 is that you’re not in your 20s anymore. You’re more mature, you probably know what you want, and your life is more stable. That’s how it’s been for me, anyway, and how I’m sure it will be for you too.

  207. kim says...

Turning thirty means giving up your childhood dreams and turning them into realistic dreams. From here on you live life for what it is and not what it can be.

    Happy Birthday!

  208. elizabooth says...

The best thing about turning 30 is realizing that it’s not so bad getting older. I turn 31 this summer and last year’s big 3-0 gave me a chance to reflect on where I was and realize that I’m liking who I am and what I’ve done so far. It really bothers me when people wallow in self-pity on their 30th birthday. 30 is still totally young and totally awesome!

  209. Amelia says...

From a 32-year old: The best thing about turning 30 is that I am finally old enough to know that whilst the opinion of others is worth considering and paying attention to, I no longer let it dictate my actions. I spent my 20s working out who I was and the first two years of my 30s being that person.

    Have a fab birthday!

  210. gail says...

The best thing about turning 3o is………….its just another number. You are only “old” on the days you “feel old”, or want to be treated old. I “turned 30″, 22 years ago, but life has never been better! HAPPY B-DAY TO YOU !!!!!!!

The best thing about turning 30 is that you have enough experience at being yourself to have an idea of who you are, but still so much left to discover!

In all seriousness, my friends who have turned 30 are loving their 30s so much that I am absolutely looking forward to turning 30. A year and a few months to go!

The best thing about turning 30 is the party that you will have! No one can turn down a 30th birthday party. Also, these days 50 is the new 30 so there is absolutely nothing wrong with turning 30. Enjoy and revel in how far you have come since the last milestone birthday (25?).

You’re getting good at finishing socks! They look nice. I’m not 30 yet, but the best thing about it for you would be your new loom! What a wonderful present for yourself and you deserve it. Happy Birthday!
