Go big or go home.

This Wednesday, I shipped my biggest order yet to the brand, spanking new Make One Yarn Studio in Calgary, Alberta. Not a wholesale order, per se, but a really big order on behalf of the Make One Sock Club members. Whatever isn’t snatched up by the sock club knitters will go in the store starting June 20th… Amy at Make One (bless her!) is also a Buffy fan, so there’s extra Slayer, Willow and Angel in the mix!

All packed up and off to Calgary we go…

Yes, it was a little freaky and a little intimidating, but I wanted to take on this order as a test for myself. I wanted to try and see what making a big order would be like… how difficult… how tiring… how fun… how exciting?

Well, I survived. So slowly (slowly, slowly) but surely, I am going to start taking wholesale orders. The details aren’t all complete yet but should be ready in a couple weeks. In the meantime, if you are interested in setting up a wholesale account or at least receiving a wholesale info package, let me know here: http://sweetgeorgiayarns.com/about/wholesale.php

There’s no dye session this weekend since we are off to the HOW Design Conference in Las Vegas. It’s basically four days of company-sponsored hedonism for 3,000 graphic designers in the middle of the desert. Crazy, crazy. I’ll be the one knitting a sock in the back of the room.

Now, that is absolutely gorgeous stuff there.

Why didn’t I know you were a graphic designer? Hmmm. I’m not one, but my dh is and he has a marketing/communications company.

Hope it’s not too boring! My dh went about 6-7 years ago to the AIGA conference in LV and it wasn’t too bad. Being able to play the wheel helped alot!

oh I went to HOW in florida one year, I got this WONDERFUL book called “The cheese monkies” if you see it DO pick it up, even ask around for it. It’s very much worth it. It’s about kids in art school, and it’s very much about art! It’s strange and makes you think, REALLY good!

  7. Liz says...

wow! wow! and wow again! I’m so impressed and am cheering you on, Felicia! You go girl. :)

Really gorgeous stuff! I think I’ll have to order some and have it sent to my mom so I can pick it when I visit later in the summer. Love your yarn and your blog. You’re a very talented woman.

Congratulations!!! I know they’re going to love it. I love the Angel I got from you. I’m so happy you’re doing well with the yarn. Good for you. I’m going to get a few more skeins out, but nothing in the production way your doing. Just little old me over here and it’s a ton of work.

Oh my!!!! That is heavenly!!! I love all the colors…sooo beautiful…I have never seen a most beautiful sight of sock yarn :)

Fabulous stuff. Did you spin it yourself and then dye it, or is it commercial yarn which you have dyed? Either way I’m very impressed. What kind of yarn is it?

  18. Angie says...

I wish I lived in Calgary! Beautiful yarn.

  19. Cheryl says...

Hate to be redundant…but will have to add my ditto to the masses. Haven’t even begun to be proficient in weaving and yet I find myself in possession of my first fleece to clean/dye/spin. It’s just hoping to look like yours!

  20. Krista says...

OK, I’m having major stash envy looking at those yarns! I want all of them! Next time you stock your shop I may have to break my yarn diet resolution to get my hot little hands on some sock yarn. By the way, I started spindling up the River BFL, and it’s absolutely gorgeous to spin with– it drafts like a dream.

  21. Siow Chin says...

    Super gorgeous yarn! Wow!

  22. Marianne says...

Oh, I’m so jealous you get to go to the HOW conference! I’m not a graphic designer, but I find the articles to be incredibly helpful to me as an editor and as a creative.

Also, GORGEOUS piles of sock yarn! There’s something about huge piles of yarn like that that make me want to just touch every single one of them.

Now I’ve got no excuse not to make the trip down to Make 1.

Your weaving has inspired me…I’ve got a rigid heddle loom on order. I can’t wait!

  25. Leah says...

You do such beautiful work…in everything you do!

  26. Kathy says...

Oh wow… that picture is amazing!! Congratulations on Going BIG and meeting that challenge for yourself head on and eyes open. Bravo!! I for one can’t wait to see your yarn in my LYS (Maybe THEN I will finally get to snag a skein of Slayer or Angel… or better yet I’ll finally talk you into doing a Spike yarn - with Hawaiian shirt colors in it, of course.)

    Congratulations!!!

  27. Laura says...

Yippee for you! Best wishes for success in the wholesale market!! What a lot of extra work but maybe somehow more streamlined? I would imagine it’s kind of redistributing the work. :)

  28. Vik says...

I have never been happier to live near Calgary. Can’t wait for June 20!

  29. Dani says...

Wonderful job Felicia! I can’t believe you are doing wholesale! That is some crazy stuff! Soon everyone will be oohing and ahhing over your yarn just like Koigu and Lorna’s Laces! I just have to know how many skeins you sent out?!?!

  31. Nancy says...

Beautiful yarn - makes me just want to roll around naked in it. Nevermind - that was a bit tmi. :)

Congrats on another milestone! The yarns look beautiful, of course, and packaged so prettily! Is it ever hard to send them out the door or with the volume do you not get attached to them?

  33. isel says...

    Congratulations!

I can’t stand to look at those pictures. Gorgeous. I doubt there will be anything left.

The yarn is beautiful and I’m one of the lucky “sockaholics”! I chose Chinois to go with the pattern Amy selected and will be casting on within the hour …

  40. Crystal says...

I am so happy to say I live in Calgary and I can’t wait until the 20th! I may even have to call in sick that morning. Or come in late. Or take a long lunch. I can’t decide I’m so excited!!! :)

  41. melanie says...

  44. Carol-Ann Sample says...

I am a member of the sock aholics club at Make 1 Yarns in Calgary and I was thrilled to see that our pattern this month included yarn from your stash Felicia. I chose willow and can’t wait to cast on.. ciao bella!

  45. Ramona says...

Your yarn is absolutely gorgeous. I have just recently discovered Buffy the Vampire Slayer in reruns(better late then never). I think I’m addicted.

  46. Rabbitch says...

Dude, please tell me that’s commercially spun and you just dyed it all.

No, it’s not a case of “just”, it’s a hell of a lot of work, as I’m busy finding out, but if you handspun all of that too, I’m going to have to go out in the woods and scream for a bit.

  47. Jodie says...

I had to leave a comment because I recently became a huge Buffy fan. I just finished watching all of the seasons about a month ago. I have to know…where’s the tweed named Giles?

  48. marnie says...

Your yarn is gorgeous! Not only that… but lucky me, I live in Calgary. Make One Yarns is the best place in town for finding irresistible yarn, patterns and best of all a wonderful knitting community. Hope you get to see it sometime.

what do you think?
