Secret Cove

Life has thrown me a few happy, crazy, angsty days since my last post on Thursday. Jen and I are both long-time volunteers involved in the organization of the annual DanceSport BC SnowBall Classic DanceSport event and we spent the past couple days tucked away in the Sunshine Coast participating in a massive strategic planning meeting that covers all things “SnowBall” from now until 2010. It was eight or nine hours a day of thinking, analyzing, dreaming, planning — all very inspiring. It’s so uplifting to be around people who are all so optimistic and enthusiatic. Their passion is palpable. The entire committee stayed at the gorgeous Rockwater Secret Cove Resort in Halfmoon Bay.

When we weren’t indoors, this is what we got to see:

And this is what we did each evening after dinner:

My spinning wheel on the balcony outside our room.

Jen is borrowing my Ashford Joy wheel indefinitely and so we were both spinning and chatting until late each night. A perfect way to relax after all that work — and I managed to get more of my Gotland spun up. Relaxing AND productive. No better combination.

As for the angst, see this lovely new 50/50 silk/wool laceweight yarn that I dyed?

Decisions, decisions. This is the portrait of knitter’s angst.

Well, I can’t decide if I like it as the Diamond Fantasy Shawl or as the Kiri Shawl. Ridiculous, no? I started knitting each shawl from either end of the same ball of yarn… I’ll let you know which shawl wins out… when I decide.

Gorgeous views, but my favorite is the one with the spinning wheel. Sounds like a good time to me.

Great photographs! You are/were in such a beautiful place. Funny way to decide on a project. I’ve never thought of doing that before!

    Beautiful scenery.

Kiri reminds me of Birch. I really like the one on the right, the fantasy shawl. They’re both lovely.

  4. Jenn says...

Beautiful pictures! I say the Diamond Shawl looks the best!

oooh the yarn is beautiful! i’d vote for the DFS. kiri is nice, but i’m in love with the angular look of DFS.

The Diamond Fantasy is screaming out to be finished!

OOOhh - The one one the right is gorgeous. I think it showcases the yarn best.

  9. Leisel says...

If it were up to me, I’d go with the one on the right… I like the scallopy edge that it has.

(Of course, you should do the one YOU like best.)

You are amazing!!! I love your yarn and both of the lace is so pretty but I think the one on the right was better.

What a lovely dilemma to have though… The yarn is beautiful and the colour is gorgeous. Either of those shawls will look stunning.

i really like the shawl to the right! but maybe because the other one is just too small to tell how beautiful it is.

Felicia - we have seen much on the Birch and Kiri - go for the Diamond Fantasy… The yarn really brings depth to the pattern….

How wonderful to spin to such a view! I vote for Diamond shawl as well.

I can’t believe how beautiful it is there. Wow. The trees, the water, the sky…

And I know you didn’t ask, but that little scrap of Diamond Fantasy is too lovely to rip out! :-)

Did you spin the lace yarn? I like the one on the right….lovely pics of the area.

Hmmm…I can see it will be hard to chose. My pick would be the Diamond Fantasy shawl.

I went over to the exhibition today and really enjoyed the show. Your father’s paintings are really wonderful! So peaceful and calming with the soft colours. He wasn’t there but the other artist was and explained his paintings to us.

Just found out we know someone else in common…Jackie Ing.

Your dyed yarn is gorgeous and I say it looks great in the Diamond Fantasy Shawl pattern.

Your shawls look like little butterflies gathering around a pot of honey. Although I suppose it would be more logical that bees would gather around honey. All bees aside, they’re both quite pretty.

I love that yarn. the color is gorgeous and the knitted piece on the right side is terrific. Can’t wait to see progress on this piece.

This yarn is stunning - and so are your photos, make me yearn for a holiday. I love the pattern to the right. It goes very well with this yarn and color. And - I would love to see more of it.

Beee-yootiful colour, Felicia. Kiri is just like Birch - lovely but boring, IMO. I say go for the Diamond Fantasy, it looks nice and complex, hee. I drove by Halfmoon Bay a couple of times several years ago …..

  23. Jennifer says...

Diamond Fantasy most definitely. It looks beautiful (and the yarn color is gorgeous!).

Received the “Angel” yarn today, totally yummy! Now I just hope DH appreciates getting yarn (that he can choose what I knit from) for Father’s Day!

Really good photos. Is the Diamond the one on the right? I like that one the best.
