I never thought it would happen to me.

Second sock syndrome. It must be a reflection of my tendency to be distracted by pretty things.

Here pretty, pretty.

Here I am mid-sock. Four potential pairs of socks and nothing to wear. From the left, there is the Friday Harbour socks that I started in August, the Jaywalkers in River, some handspun socks knit toe-up, and a fresh new toe-up sock in the new sock yarn that I’m dyeing.

Toe-up socks in “Coal Harbour”

I’m using [Wendy's super fabulous toe-up sock pattern](http://wendyjohnson.net/blog/sockpattern.htm) with 60 stitches around on 2.5 mm needles (US 1). It’s going super fast too — I knit almost the entire foot while watching Brokeback Mountain. Hopefully, if I keep this pace I’ll have an actual _pair_ of socks to wear next week. I’m knitting toe-up because I want to see how much length I can get out of each skein… Then next time I can knit top-down and be more confident that I won’t run out of yarn by the time I get to the toe. I prefer the toes on top-down socks…

I’m all fidgety now after seeing [Anna Maria's Pomatomus sock](http://annamaria.typepad.com/blog/2006/03/varma_hnder.html) and [Lavender's Pomatomus socks](http://thymeformom.blogspot.com/2006/03/pomatomus-socks.html). Yummy. Must have new sock(s).

Finally, I did promise to update the shop this week with those new yummy superwash sock yarns… and I did… You can find them on the _new_ [SweetGeorgia Yarns online shop](http://sweetgeorgiayarns.com/). Many of the yarns are already sold (you guys are fabulous — I love you all) but I will be dyeing again this weekend (since [FibreFest in Abbotsford](http://www.fibrefestinternational.com/) is next weekend).

Happy Thursday!

I love your store Felicia – it looks fantastic!! I will definitely be splurging on some new sock yarn soon (um, even though I don’t really need it). I am nearly finished my second pomatomus sock – it’s a fun pattern!!

  2. Donni says...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO – don’t tempt me – I have enough yarn (for this week). I know just how you feel with second sockitis….have you tried knitting the other sock at the same time or 2 socks on 2 circs? Thanks for the link to the Potomus Socks – I found that you can do them toe up – I’m casting on tonight!

I, too, am distracted by pretty things – the yarns in your shop!! I can usually only have three or four sock projects going at once before I run short on needles… it’s a very good way to limit oneself ;)

  4. Theresa says...

I currently have about 6 pairs of socks on the needles – Friday Harbor being one of them. Love them.

Well, poo! I ran to the site to try to buy some of your sock yarn and everything I clicked on was sold out! Horrors! Your yarns are lovely, as are the sock singles. Coal Harbour is fabulous. The last thing I need is more sock yarn, but it really is beautiful.

Gee. I have second sock syndrome just looking at your socks they are sooo pretty!!

I suffer from Two-ittis. Anything that requires two, I have a hard time finishing the second…sleeves, socks, mitten, etc. Doing both socks on a long circular seems to help. :)

Think of it this way…when you get all your socks done, you’ll have lots of beautiful socks to wear.

This probably won’t help but have you seen Efline’s Socks?

I had had years of second-sock syndrome until I attempted Pomatomus as my Knitting Olympics challenge. I finished them in no time flat, love love love them, and have recently started another pair. It’s a fabulous pattern.

No fair! Nothing was left when I got here! Do you have a mailing list to announce when new stuff comes up? Or can I send you an email with what I’d buy if it were available, and you can save me a few skeins when you do the colors again?

Thank you so much for visiting my blog and commenting on the Pomatomus socks, even though you can’t understand a word I’m writing It really made my day! As you can see, I’m using your yarn and is looks fabulous. I will send you a picture of the finished pair, if I’ll ever get there… I have a couple of single socks myself and I even started another one last night, just to see the colorway.
I love your blog and your socks and I’m looking forward seeing pairs from you too.
    Hugs from me!

Those socks in progress are GORGEOUS!

I love the colors on the handspun sock. The new handdyed is purty too. I’m going through a strange sock starting fit as well, in a short time I’ve gone from 1 to 4 socks on needles, and I really want to start a 5th. Unlike you I only have 1 finished sock of all those pairs, though. Sigh.

  13. Liz says...

    Hi Felicia,

I missed the new yarn you posted in the Sweet shop. :( I love your colorways, can’t wait until there’s more yarn available.

  14. Beth S. says...

I really like the handspun sock. Great colors!

  15. Jayme says...

There are a lot of other toe options for toe up socks. If that is the only reason you knit top down I’d look at some other options. Wendy wrote an article for Knitty detailing a bunch a while back and there are 2 other ways that I know of that she doesn’t describe, the “little square” toe, and one similar to the figure 8 but using the longtail cast on instead, alternating stitches onto 2 needles.

There are also a lot of heel options too, including one that looks and fits exactly like a top down regular french/round heel

I love toe up socks, can you tell?

I seem to be suffering from bad sock mojo. I’m still not sure my latest socks will be the proper size and I’m not sure I can take ripping another one. All of your socks are very pretty – gorgeous colors.

You’re going to have a booth at Fibre Fest? I was thinking of going and now I’m pretty sure I will. I didn’t see your name on the list of exhibitors? I’ll see you there! I’ll be the one drooling over your yarn ;-)

  18. Linda Tabach says...

No one ever said that you have to wear two of the same sock, did they? Beautiful socks!

  19. Pioggia says...

I love toe-up socks too! I’m beginning to think I should wear my “single” socks even if they don’t match, just because it’s a shame not to wear them after so much trouble.

I so enjoy your blog – and always appreciate our responses! Love that pink handspun from your sock selection – is that one of yours? Could that possibly be in your shop? Happy knitting!

I couldn’t find your email, so I’m leaving this here in you comments. Thanks!

    Dear Vancouver Bloggers,

I’m Nadia from Nadia’s Crafting Adventures, a Vancouver knitblog. I’m emailing you because a number of Vancouver knitbloggers have decided to get together because Caro from Split Yarn is visiting from Texas and wanted to meet up. I realise that this is both very short notice and a slightly odd request, considering that you don’t all know me or Caro. But hey, isn’t that the fun of blogging? Connecting with random, crazy strangers with common obsessions? (The other wacky interest seems to be photography; almost half the people I’ve emailed are professionals in that field.)

Right now, I have Li from Life’s a Stitch, Caro from Split Yarn, Monique from Planet No Fun, and me confirmed. We are meeting at Dix Barbecue and Brewery (map here) at 4:15. If you want to come, email back or just swing by tomorrow.

Also, if you know anyone else who might want to come, bring them.

    Thanks for hearing me out,
    Nadia

  22. Nadia says...

Sorry to leave another comment, but the knitting meetup was for tomorrow, Sunday, March 26. It’s the only day that’s good for Caro before she leaves to go back to the States.

    Thanks,
    Nadia
