Louboutin vs. Green

Have you ever met something so beautiful, it a) made your heart stop, b) make you feel sick and lightheaded, c) gasp audibly, d) all of the above? I’ve felt it… with a pair of shoes, nonetheless.

A few days ago, I saw (and, unfortunately for me, tried on) _the_ most beautiful pair of Christian Louboutin shoes — they made me want to lie down and cry, they were so gorgeous. Strappy, sandal-y and classic, I could wear them everyday, forever. More than once that day, it crossed my mind that I could take all the pennies I’d been saving for my drum carder and blow it all on this one beautiful moment with _the shoes_.

However, in an attempt to curb potentially bad shopping activity, I called up [Paula](http://www.patgreencarders.com/) this morning and ordered my drum carder. That’s right, there’s a drum carder out in Chilliwack with my name on it and I’m going to pick it up this weekend…

Because fashion is fleeting and drum carders are forever, right? _Right?_

    Absolutely.

I just bought a pair of new shoes (nothing like the expense or perfection, though), and they were great for a few days, until they started trying to give me blisters. I’m back to the dying shoes that the new ones were supposed to replace, at least for now.

I was hoping to see a photo of the SHOES – and the drum carder…..live on the edge and all! :)

    Good choice!!!
I love having my drumcarder ( a used old clemes&clemes) but do notice a difference betweeen using wool I’ve carded and store bought roving, I think I just need more practice. I’ve carded and spun Alpaca and Romney and now I’m choosing between Corriedale and a Merino/Shetland Cross fleece Any suggestions on which I should get???

I love, love, love shoes, but the drum carder wins. It is forever and there will always be another gorgeous pair of shoes, probably more gorgeous than the pair you passed up. You will never regret the drum carder.

So, which one are you getting? Fancicarder or Beverly?

So glad you chose the carder, especially if it means more fabulous yarn from you! I just received my ‘fondant’ yarn! It’s beyond fabulous, I love the colors. You are tres talented.

I have fallen hard over shoes, but in the end I probably would have chosen the drum carder too. More practical, and it will last longer. Fashion is fleeting, yes. Very much so.

    Excellent choice!

ROFL!!!! So the mind does wonder what these shoes looked like. In the long run a drum carder will last longer. BUT SHOES!!!!

congrats! those Pat Green Carders look to be gorgeous pieces of machinery.

maybe it’s not either/or on the shoes… now that you have your drum carder, perhaps it’s time for a shoe fund? :)

Oh you do have good willpower, who dragged you out of the shop??

I guess I don’t understand, not being a spinning and all. Now, you’ve got me thinking… hmmm spinning.

  12. Sherry says...

You have so much more willpower than me! I just bought this gorgeous outfit from Anthropologie which cost way more than I should spend, even if it was on sale.

The drum carder is the better choice – in ten years you will be happy that you didn’t buy the shoes.

Although I do want to see a picture of them.

You know, there’s an ad campaign for Visa running in Germany at the moment. On the poster, there’s a girl trying on several pairs of shoes in a shoeshop and then there’s the slogan: “Liebe jedes letzte Paar in Deiner Gr???üe”, which means “Love every last pair in your size”! *LOL* I love it!

  14. Annie says...

You are one strong woman for being able to resist the Louboutins! Those are gorgeous shoes!

  15. Carmen says...

I just checked the price of Christian Louboutin shoes on the web….*sigh*, wow!!!!

  16. Lauren says...

The drum carder may help you earn Louboutin money later…

  17. Liz says...

I know nothing about fashion, so I’m glad to see you went for the carder. :)

  18. Susan says...

Echoing the above, good choice. Mine was worth every penny.

  19. Kim says...

As another shoe lover, I can understand the struggle, but in the long run, you will be happy with the carder. At least it won’t go out of style

  20. Carin says...

WHAT?! It made you feel “d)all of the above” and you didn’t buy it??! Felicia!? Christian Louboutin!!

But you deserve the carder, too! You’ve been wanting it for a while.

  21. Monica says...

Definitely the drum carder. Then again this comes from someone who has, um, 6 pairs of shoes, with a combined value less than 1 pair of Christian Louboutin shoes. :)

Are you out of your mind? If a pair of shoes is speaking to you in those many ways, you ought to listen. Yes, a drum carder is not fleeting, but always there, and yes, a drum carder has been around longer than Christian Louboutin. However, Sweet G., you have beautiful knits to co-ordinate beautiful shoes with. You have a beautiful shop. You are a beautiful business woman. I expect to see some beautiful pictures of your feet in those pieces of art!
If you’ve already made arangements to go to Chilliwack, she’s been gone-gone-gone she’s been gone so long, she’s been gone-gone-gone so long, then you’ll just have to get them both!
You could always have a “Uniform” while using your drum carder, one that includes Christian Louboutin shoes.

  23. Linda says...

Good for you – a drumcarder is a great choice. You can sell your handspun yarn and buy the shoes with the profits!

  24. Melissa says...

You’re a stronger woman than me. I would have caved and bought the shoes.

  25. Li_B says...

I had that experience with a pair or earrings I saw at Costco. When I was finally ready to buy them, they were gone. I thought about them from time to time. When visiting Edmonton a year later, I found a pair. And the price had gone down. They were so mine!

Um, right. I think. I do so love great shoes, but I did order a spinning wheel (yipee), so maybe my priorties will change. Right?

  27. Christie says...

    Priorities…enjoy your new carder…

Valentine’s Day is coming up. You could drop some hints . . .
