Sunday Morning Spin
These photos are to remind me that the sun really does exist.

Sunday morning was beautiful — I had almost forgotten how plain old sunlight can make our living room look all glow-y. Caught up in the moment, I scrambled around for camera stuff — but this is the trouble when you have an out-of-house office. Stuff is all over the place. Either the memory cards are at home with no camera, or the camera is at home and the cards are at the office. So, in a panic, I shot these with the DH’s little [Canon IXY 600](http://www.dpreview.com/news/0502/05021702canon_sd500.asp).
That black merino/silk is what I’m spinning now — spinning fine, fine laceweight because I’m crazy and want to knit the black Shetland stole that’s in the [New Style of Heirloom Knitting](http://montrealknits.blog-city.com/new_style_of_heirloom_knitting.htm) book. See… it’s pretty, no?
####Dye Garden
Thanks for everybody’s helpful ideas on the garden! Our space is a little challenging since the backyard garden is north facing and quite shady because of large city trees that we can’t chop down (although, did you hear about [the lady who poisoned a couple massive trees at English Bay to get a better view and increase her property value?](http://www.beyondrobson.com/city/2006/01/tree_killer/)). The DH has already ixned the “replacing the front lawn with big garden” idea. _Boo._
I love the idea of starting to compost stuff. A couple summers ago the city was giving away (or selling for cheap) big plastic composters but we were concerned that we didn’t have a proper place to put it in the backyard — it being, big, plasticky and unsightly. But now I’m thinking of those nice [tumbling versions](http://www.leevalley.com/garden/page.aspx?c=1&cat=2,2050&p=47098) that you can get at Lee Valley. It might even make decomposing stuff… fun…
And this year, the mint is going in pots! See, I’m learning…
####Firefly
Got some cash to spare? Fellow Browncoats are collecting $$$ to pay for another season of Firefly. [Check it out...](http://www.browncoatsriseagain.com/)

the merino/silk for the stole…stupendous! i was admiring it on sunday and thought to myself what is she going to make with that gorgeous yarn! it will be beautiful with your pewter top! when you finish your stole we shall have to go out for dinner again in celebration!
Beautiful spinning for a gorgeous project. I can’t wait to see more. And I’m happy you had some sunshine.
Nice composter!–beautiful pics too.
Glad you’re getting some sun! I was all set to donate to the Browncoats, but the website says that they’re not accepting any more donations. Bummer. I did knit a cunning hat for my sister for Christmas – I think your site directed me to some good links for it!
looks like they’re not taking donations anymore
i wish firefly could go on forever!
that’s some lovely yarn you got piled up there. hope to see it soon on etsy!
i love finding other Firefly/Joss Whedon fans. Have you been reading the Astonishing X-Men comics? I hate comics in general, but I’d read/watch anything that came from the brain of Joss.
Spinning is just something I don’t think I’d ever do….
That Shetland Stole seems such a gorgeous thing!
They’re not taking donations anymore … bummer! I would love to see something of Joss’ on TV again, my world just isn’t the same without the Whedonverse.
Lovely shawl. What will be more challenging, knitting it or spinning the yarn?
I’m quite the treehugger, but we rent out an apartment and so don’t have a backyard to compost (which is just as well, because I’m terrified of creepy crawlies. I might make my husband be in charge of it, though, since I do want to do my part for the environment.)
P.S. Really excited about actually winning an Etsy auction for the Slayer sock yarn. Can’t wait!
Beautiful spinning and that shawl will gorgeous.
I just finished re-watching the Firefly series. Joss Whedon is such a talented person.
Ah! That shawl is so tempting. But I’m committed to the Crossed in Translation cardigan. Waiting so patiently for my copy to arrive.
I hadn’t heard about the crazy poisoning tree lady! Unbelievable! I’m glad to hear though that I’m not the only one living in the lower mainland that feels that she’s slowly killing her garden! We moved into a house with an beautiful established garden and due to laziness and ineptness I fear that I am killing it! This year will be different! I will become a gardener!
I love your blog and am inspired to try spinning!
I love your picture of your spinning wheel and yarns. I’d love to learn to spin.
Love your blog.
I too have plans to knit that stole….
Oooo… I like that tumbling composter. It makes me think maybe I actually will do some composting at this house (was thinking I didn’t have space in my yard).
That Shetland stole is GORGEOUS!
