Speed Demon.

We can’t all knit as fast as Cara. And lately, I’ve been feeling like the slowest knitter in the world! My Jaywalkers? I’ve just turned the heel on the first sock… and I started nearly three weeks ago. So, I was positively giddy when I received a shipment of superwash sock yarn to dye. See the yarn dyed in Fondant:

Squishy. Soft. Superwash.

I feel like a superknitter.

These are toe-up socks knit on US 6(!) / 4mm Addi’s and I’m getting 6 sts/in. The socks are 46 sts around. What does that mean? That means super-fast knitting! That means socks in a day! So I wanted to share the joy joy joy and so I’ve posted a couple skeins of this new “Speed Demon” sock yarn in the Sweet Shop for you. The best part? They are superwash, so no worries about felting. Happy day all around.

My horoscope said I would be productive these past few days and look, see, I’ve been productive:

Re-skeined by Richard

Not yet re-skeined.

I spent the weekend dyeing about ten pounds of yarn! Much of it is up in the Sweet Shop today — there’s Slayer, Willow, Elf, Coal Harbour, Marina, and more… for most colourways, I dyed at least two skeins. And there is lots more coming in the next few days. By the way, go check out Kira’s beautiful Misty Garden scarf that she knit out of a skein of Marina…

Oh! And those of you that requested skeins of River or Fondant be set aside for you, I have skeins of both in superwash or non-superwash for you to pick from!

Oh, beautiful, beautiful. Props to Richard, too, for the incredibly neat skeining :)

I’m loving your trademark colorways - Slayer, River, etc - so pretty!

So nice to see more stuff for your store. I can’t wait to receive the merlot sock yarn I ordered. I see that you made more slayer, cool, it’s beautiful, but my favorite is firefly. Do you know if you’ll make more of it?

Everything looks yummy. I especially love the name “Marina” because its my 3-year-olds name. Good luck with the sales. And thanks for your neverending support and encouragement, it means a ton!

Oh my god - I NEED some of that Fondant! Can you set aside some for me next go around?

I don’t really knit that fast (blush) In fact, I haven’t knit for days! And it doesn’t look like I’ll be knitting anytime soon either.

Your socks are LUSCIOUS! I love the color.

Wonderful yarns!! Love them! How can you be a slow knitter when you’re producing dyed yarns at the rate you are?! Doesn’t seem to match to me!

  6. Leisel says...

I love how the colors are turning out with the Fondant dyed yarn. Do you mind if I ask… how do you determine the length of individual colors and of the entire repeat? I was gifted with some sock yarn to try dying, but I haven’t gotten up the nerve because I don’t want to end up with something that pools in an ugly manner.

Love your colours. Please explain re-skeining. I can see a big difference between the pictures, but I don’t understand what did it. Thanks.

  8. Hanna says...

the mixed colours you are knitting are fab! I want a skein, it looks like candy!

I think that the pictures of your gorgeous yarns are my favorite of any pictures I have seen lately. They look like big balls of pretty colored cotton candy or something. I just want to eat them up! Seriously, you have a real talent for dying and it is fantastic that you were able to make a business from doing what you love.

Do you ever dye non-wool yarn? I ask because I’m a vegan knitter and I LOVE your colourways, there is a huge lack of non animal fibre yarn out there for socks…

If you ever decide to do some non animal fibre stuff I’d defintely jump at the chance to buy some!

your yarn is so beautiful, i don’t know how you can give any of it up. i know i couldn’t.

So beautiful! I went over to the shop to browse and was not surprised to find almost everything had been bought. ;)

  13. Vicki says...

It’s all so beautiful! And if it makes you feel any better I’m knitting some socks on 4’s and they’re still taking forever. I’m maybe the slowest knitter ever, woohoo!

  14. Stephanie says...

Beautiful and I love quick socks. I’ll have to order some more yarn (well, I need to make a dent in what I have first, but…)

  15. Kim says...

What pretty yarns! God, if I were you I’d never leave my house.

  16. beth says...

You have such beautiful yarns, but you must have some that you don’t think come out as nice as you like. What do you do with those? Or don’t you have those problems? Hee hee….. ;-)

  17. Marie says...

As usual your yarns are amazing, such bright vibrant colors…and so many - you really were productive!

  18. Michelle says...

I love your sock! Hmmm, you have almost tempted me to finish my unfinished sock…almost…

  19. Mariko says...

    YUMMY.

Uh oh. Too gorgeous to resist. I sense a stash enhancing urge coming on. I am very fond of Fondant!! Any chance I could order a couple of skeins of Speed Demon in Fondant and Elf?

  22. Rebecca says...

Your yarn is so yummy! Is it possible to put in an order for the Fondant and River?

  23. Marita says...

The yarn you knit the socks with is so lovely!! What yarn is it? Have you made it?

  24. katie says...

Oh, that fondant yarn is so pretty. And I love the socks you made with it.

I have never knitted socks before, I am tring to learn how. I love this sock pattern and how you started it toe up can you give me this pattern and also want size needle do you use? I tried the magic loop technique over the week in and I like it, now I just need a basic pattern. Thanks

Sheesh! What happens when you go away for the holidays?? ALL THE YARN IS GONE when you get back!! It look(ed) wonderful!

  28. nina says...

Where can I find that sock pattern? Those look so cute!

  29. Shetha says...

Gorgeous dyeing! I don’t know how anyone can be so productive, but I only get 30-60 min increments to craft with. I can live vicariously through you! I, too, am interested in this pattern because I did a gauge and got 6 sts/in and can’t find a decent toe up pattern (yet). I’m a first time toe-upper so any help is welcome!
