Colour Me

Remember this nice [GGH Savanna yarn?](http://blog.sweetgeorgiayarns.com/archives/2004/12/the_joy_of_self.html) To make this [lovely cabled sweater?](http://blog.sweetgeorgiayarns.com/archives/2004/10/sleepless_in_sa.html) We drove all the way out to Steveston to buy it. And it’s not my colour. It’s kind of a beigy-oatmeal colour — natural looking. But it makes me look ill, so I overdyed my swatch to see if I could get something better:

My kinda colour?

Yeah, I like. It’s just straight magenta acid dyes and it’s come out a wine-coloured red. Nice. But hopefully in the future, I won’t need to make bad colour choices anymore! A friend and I are taking a “colour” class in October where someone will tell you what colours you are suited for. I need somebody to tell me, “hey, that colour looks _bad_ on you…” because sometimes you just get emotionally attached to a colour… or is it just me? and my strange obsession with lilac purple?

####Sweet Shop!
And thanks for everybody’s comments, email and overall wonderful support and confidence in me! This is all very exciting and scary at the same time. More dye stuff is coming to me, so the shop won’t be empty for long!

I agree, I think you look great with strong and vivid colors. The class should be fun, especially when you’re taking it with a friend. Can’t wait to see your next sweater.

Oh, I love the overdyed color! And the fact that you’re using yarn from your 2004 stash gives me hope with my stash. :-) Where are you taking the class? That sounds like a fun idea.

Hey, be careful with that pattern! :) I just started knitting it–or what is now a completely altered version of it–and there are mistakes EVERYWHERE. The measurements are questionable, too. It tells you to knit the body of the sweater so it measures about 50 cm from start of armhole to the hem, which, on me (and I’m considered “average” height) comes down to my tushie. On the model, it looks like it hits her just above the hip. Since you can’t shorten the sweater without messing up the cable pattern, I’ve opted to use the horsheshoe cable from IK’s Simply Marilyn instead. The arm widths are also a little on the generous side. And the neckline? I’m worried it might be too wide for a turtleneck, but maybe I’m just being pessimistic.

Anyway, I just thought I should warn you that you might want to read the pattern thoroughly and make sure you like the measurements before you get too far. Rebecca always has such beautiful patterns, but their notorious typos can make for tragic results!

I love the color! Although I think I’m in a red phase right now – all reds, I’m not picky. I think that color is much better for you than the oatmeal. Fun, fun. I can’t wait to see the whole lot of it dyed up wine colored. Yummy.

I have to come out of lurking mode to say “Yay” about your upcoming color classes. A friend recently “did my colors” and I’ve learned that I am a “summer” (so that lovely pink/magenta yarn would be perfect for me!). It’s made shopping so much easier, knowing what colors to pick and those to avoid. Have fun!

It is an improvement. I’d get tired of the oatmeal color right after knitting the first inch.

I’m with you on the color. Even though I wear alot of black in my wardrobe, knitting with neutrals just doesn’t seem as interesting!

I love the overdyed color you created. How do you plan to get even coloring among all the balls of yarn? I’m asking because I’d love to know and don’t know how to myself!

Felicia, did you ever finish the yellow baby blanket? Where did you find the pattern? Do you recommend it? It is so adorable in the photo, I’m wondering how it turned out.

I love GGH Savanna. I am knitting a poncho with it now, but I think I may have two balls or more left over when I am finished…over-dyeing would be a great solution to not having too many sage green things :^) Thanks for sharing!
