Birch
Here are the gratuitous Birch photos.

Birch
- Pattern: Rowan 34, designed by Sharon Miller

- Changes: none! (I made the Stockinette version)
- Finished Measurements: 75” x 40”
Blocking Birch was the most fun I’ve had finishing in a long time! I left it to soak in some Lavendar-scented Eucalan while I had breakfast and then pinned it out on the bed along with some of my makeshift blocking wires. What are they? They are the wire parts of some stake flags that I found at Home Depot. Seriously, they cost me $2.98 for 25. Happy happy…
I love this shawl — so quick and easy to knit. The pattern is dead easy (easier than River!) and I might just have to make more than one!
Could you please tell me where I can find the Birch pattern? Yours is beautiful! Thanks.
Wow, your birch shawl is fabulous, I love it! You’re an excellent knitter.
Oh Birch turned out gorgeous! It looks so fluffy and soft.
Felicia, when you dye in the turkey roaster do you put your fiber in stockings (panty hose)? Or do you just coil it around in the roaster? I have seen your write-up and photos for using Saran Wrap (and the melted Saran Wrap once). Is there a book that helped you learn to dye?
Sweet fancy Moses, that’s beautiful - I love the color, and the lace is really stunning. Right on about the blocking wires - I never could bring myself to shell out $25 for a packet of glorified coat hanger wire.
beautiful shawl… i can see birch in my future. such a popular and beautiful pattern.
Birch is absolutely beautiful. I was about to have a go at River, but after seeing Birch and reading your comment about it being easier than River, I am hesitating… I am a coward you see and usually go for the easiest option. Decisions, decisions… Well done anyway, you’ve done a fantastic job!
It’s lovely… I thought you used the lines of your quilt to block, but it turns out they’re Home Depot wires. Great idea!
This is just so gorgeous! I love it.
Birch is so so so beautiful! I love it! I was thinking of getting some welding wires myself to block lace - when I start knitting lace, I mean. But the stakes are also an economical way to go!
Your birch is so beautiful! It looks very lovely and delicate.
Yours are the prettiest Birch photos I’ve seen. Darn, and here I thought I was gonna ignore the pattern.
GORGEOUS yarn, GORGEOUS Birch!
I’m making a Birch in the Jelly colorway and I decided to experiment a litte with adding some beads. Should be interesting.
So, do you sell any of your sock yarn? It truly is beautiful.
Your Birch is absolutely gorgeous. Love that color! Easier than River? Really? I guess Birch being my first lace project made it SEEM difficult! Maybe I’ll just have to knit another!
congratulations on your Birch. It’s so pretty! I’ve made one too but mine turned out so big.
Birch is beautiful!
birch looks absolutely stunning. simply gorgeous.
Your Birch is stunning. That color is so beautiful. I will take your word for it that it was easy… it sure does not look it!
Birch is just gorgeous! You do amazing work
I’m sure it will look beautiful on you.
Well - you made it once again.. Funny to see River in Smoke while my Birch is in smoke and much smaller.. Love your idea to block these shawls !!!
I love your Birch - and I love it in Dewberry!! I’m almost finished with mine - yours definitely has me inspired to finish even faster! I can’t wait for it to transform from a blob looking thing into something so delicate and wonderful!!
And your Home Depot flag blocking wires is a riot! AND a great bargain!!
Oh, wow! What a gorgeous shawl!
Your shawl is simply luscious and, oh, so delicate! I just love, love it!! A wonderful job!!
Birch is beautiful. I just made my debut scarf in KSH. The super simple Airy Scarf in Last Minute Knitted Gifts. I tried blocking it yesterday but it ended up with a bunch of pointy spots where the pins were. I was about to look into blocking wires when I came across your pictures. Ha! DH has a brand new bundle of probably a hundred of those little flags in the back seat of the truck!!!!! Hooray! Problem solved. Thank you.
Since I’ve read your post about using the wires from Home Depot, I’ve been checking there several times. No one seems to know what I’m talking about. What are the stake flags used for?
Amazing! You’re such a great knitter!
If I weren’t so intimidated with lace I’d try this out. Maybe some lace patterned socks first and then I’ll think about tackling Birch.
help! did you knit the garter stitch version or the stockineete version? hehe
Such a beautiful shawl. I was going to make it, and still might. Thanks for the lovely photos. The color is magnificent.

I love the shawl and would like to make it for my daughter’s wedding. Where can I buy the pattern? I believe it’s a British pattern. Does anybody know where it is available in Canada? Thanks.
I have lost the instructions for the birch pattern! can you send them to me??? I completed rows 1-7 and then poof! my rowan magazine vanished! Help!!
