Happiness is also a finished object

Summer of lace, eh? What else to do when the weather gets (sort of) warm and you want to shrug off all your chores? Watch countless hours of Buffy and knit your lace shawl. So armed with seasons 6 and 7 of Buffy and a full box of kleenex (who knew slaying vampires could be so emotional?) I finished my Paisley Lace Shawl this weekend:

Ah, limited by the blocking board…

Paisley Lace Shawl

  • Pattern: from Spring 2005 Interweave Knits
  • Yarn: Jaggerspun Zephyr in Lilac (50% merino/50% tussah silk)
  • Needles: US 5 / 3.75 mm Addi Turbo‚Äö√Ñ√¥s
  • Changes: none!
  • Finished Measurements: 35″ x 35″ (blocking board was too small!)
  • Zephyr is so soft and springy… and easy to rip back if needed.

Yes, the picot edge trim takes forever, but it’s worth the nice frilly finish that it makes. I’ll be wearing this to a wedding this weekend!

Your shawl is beautiful! And the color you chose is my fave. I’ve found blocking boards to be limiting as well…will they ever make a ginormous one?

    Hi Felicia:

Where in Vancouver does one find a blocking board?? It is driving me mad; my finishing standards are going up and up and now I have some lace FOs that definitely require blocking.

    Thanks!

    Miranda II

It looks great! I really love the color.

Was this the first time you watched Buffy seasons 6 and 7? Buffy is some of the best TV, ever. I knew you had good taste. ;-)

Beautiful! I had the same blocking problem with my PLS, and ended up pinning one side of it to the carpet. :) I love the color of your shawl, and I completely agree about the picots - a pain in the rear, but very pretty!

Another Buffy fan! I own all 7 seasons on DVD… And I’m only a little embarrassed to say so! :D

Gorgeous shawl! And I love your pictures. Wish I had half your photographic ability (photography ability? ability to photograph?)!

  8. grumperina says...

Wonderful! As usual great photo, but I think that shawl would shine through a run-of-the-mill one, too. Beautiful.

Your shawl is beautiful! I’ve been tempted to make nice big lacy shawl lately, but have too many projects on the burner!

Thanks for posting a pic of the paisley motif! I was wondering why they called it that, when I couldn’t really see the “paisley’s” This is already on my “to knit list.” Just waiting to clear a few things off! Looks great and I can’t wait to see a picture of you modeling it!

Your shawl is incredible it makes me want to start a new lace project. I have not been knitting much lately, because I have just learned to spin with a drop spindle. LOL By the way…I wear the cheese, it does not wear me. But I have to say the most poignant Buffy episodes for me was actually an Angel entitled “I Will Remember You.”

As much work as it must have been, the picot edge sets the shawl off perfectly. A flawless combination! Congrats on a lovely finished object!

Beautiful shawl! When blocking boards fail, there’s always the carpet.

  46. janine says...

Lovely shawl, beautiful colour. I have found the answer to blocking boards, I bought an inexpensive hessian rug from our local DIY store. Even better is has a design that is basically 5″ squares on it but is you could use a plain one there is no reasoon why you couldn’t draw your own lines with a permenant marker. It is 48″ by 72″ ( you can get bigger) It allows you to pin out most shawls and you can get a whole jumper on it too. you can pin into it no trouble and when you are finished with it you can roll it up and put it away till next time. There are some pics of my FBS blocking on it on my blog if you want a look http://guernseygal.typepad.com/knitting_on_an_island.html
