Good long weekends

On Saturday, the DH and I hosted our annual backyard BBQ, sort of in celebration of the Canada Day long weekend. Since he discovered the idea of bbq competitions and championships, he’s become a little obsessed. Last year, our friends and I bought him a big smoker that he’s learned to use to make pulled pork. He smokes the pork over 12 hours which means that on BBQ day he’ll get up at 5:30 am to set up the smoker. Crazy, I say… but here he was by the time I woke up (6:30 am):

Armed with many back issues of “Fine Homebuilding”, the man watches his meat.

By the afternoon, some of our friends had arrived for an early poker game (this year the DH received a 500-chip poker set for his birthday)…

Sounds like a wonderful time! I loved pulled pork smoked slowly over a smoker. There’s nothing finer. Well okay maybe Filet Mignon.

My dad is all about the barbeque, and he bought us one of those smokers! I’ve never used it the way you’re supposed to…I just use it as a grill. With some wood chips tossed in for “smoke essence”. He would be so disappointed in me.

I’m drooling over that goat’s cheese! And what a riot your hub is; I’ve got some serious bbq’ers in my own family. My father collects smokers, and has a few custom-made ones. One is made from a BOILER. Sounds odd, but it makes some seriously good meat. I bet your hub would have a blast playing with it!
