Oh yeah, that gauge thing.
So it was a productive weekend full of finishing. Those two socks. The black Soleil along with its clean crocheted edges. All that work on the front of the Manly sweater (I’m about one inch from finishing the right front). And of course, the One-Skein Wonder shrug.
Remember when I said it was a practice shrug? Yeah, I didn’t even read the gauge info on the pattern let alone check gauge. Heh heh. And it makes a huge difference. The pink cashmerino shrug ended up being knit at a gauge of 20 spi when the specified gauge is 16 spi. The result?

It’s a yummy, baby pink but tiny little sweater. See, photographed here with the finished Soleil (which fits me to a tee) for comparison — I can get the shrug on, but would never actually wear it out in public. It’s ok though, I bought more yarn (!) and will check my gauge first!
this is so cute! pretty pink
I have to agree, the pink is pretty. Could you block it some to make it fit? How long did it take?
Do you know someone with a little pre-teen? That shrug turned out really cute, too bad it’s too small. I’m working on my second OSW- tis such a quick, fun knit.
That’s pretty cute. If you don’t know any styling 12 year olds you should rip it out to save that yummy yarn.
Your shrug is beautiful. I love the color and I’m not usually a pink kind of girl. It’s a shame that you won’t wear it. What will you do with it?
Soleil is pretty too. I have some Endless Summer yarn in my stash (red). It’s been calling to me.
the same thing happened to me - mine is just a little too tight. it’s really ok to wear, but just for kicks, i’m going to make another in almost the same shade of pink you are showing here…and go up a needle size!
oh my. it might be too small but still, dang, your knitting looks perfect!! my picked-up stitches are a bit wonky to say the least.
That really is a sweet little shrug. Emphasis on the little. Know any deserving pre-teens?
supercute shrug, whatever the size! love the colour. i’ve just downloaded the pattern and am going through my stash to see what would fit. woo!
fab socks in your previous post, btw!
Nice job getting so much done! I’d be interested to see a close up of the crochet neckline you did. I wasn’t too thrilled with mine and was wondering how other people made out.
ohhhh - but how cute is it! i’m looking forward to seeing “sweet georgia version no 2″
It is just so cutely pink, I’m not sure how you will have the heart to take it apart! But, yes, it will be equally cute, and pink, if you made it a size to fit you :).
its so cute though.
It is a pretty shrug. It looks like a quick knit, I’m hoping you’ll catch up quickly.
how lovely! i love the color. i’ll be sure to check my gauge before i start mine.
I love the color and what beautiful stitch definition. What kind of fiber is it? I couldn’t find the info in your blog, but if it was there, I apologize.
Cute! Cute! I hope you have a photo soon of you modeling Soleil! Your socks are great too!
Wow, you’re so productive on your weekends! My shrug turned out a smidge small, too. Not so small to prevent me from wearing it - I think of it as a good posture reminder ;o)
Though it’s small, it still looks fabulous! I love the baby pink color. I have extra DB Cashmerino Aran…now I know what I’m going to do with it!
Yey for getting lots of knitting done.
I just started knitting I’m still tring to get the hang of this gauge. I love this pink sweater and would like to make one. The only thing is I live in Ga. and there is not alot of places to buy yarn does it matter what yarn to use.
I love the shrug and am looking for one for my daughter. Can you tell me where I can buy the pattern?
Hi! Would you be able to tell me where I could find the pattern for this shrug? I have a preteen and I cannot find a shrug pattern for her anywhere! And believe me, I’ve looked high & low and can’t find a source for preteen knitting patterns. Many thanks, Pat
