Knitting, Tokyo and Cherry Blossoms

Hello from (the Apple Store in) Tokyo! Don’t you just love free internet access from demo G5 computers? Alison noticed that I haven’t posted for a few days and I just wanted to post a note to say that I am, in fact, still alive and knitting in Tokyo! We’re here for two weeks (back home by Saturday) visiting friends and family… I have lots of photos and will post them…soon!

Last night, we had dinner with friends (had chicken sashimi!) and walked through Ueno Park where people are still having their Hanami (cherry blossom viewing) parties… So many people… Good thing we went yesterday since it’s pouring rain today!

So far, outside of visiting Osaka, Kyoto, an onsen in Osaka, and various neighbourhoods in Tokyo, I’ve found a few of the yarn shops on Pinku’s list — La Droguerie in Ometosando, the Rowan/Jaeger shop in Ebisu (where they have actual knitted samples from the new Rowan mag!) and the Okadaya craft shop (4 floors of craft stuff). It doesn’t seem like anybody in Japan does any spinning, but they seem to like felting and crocheting. In fact, you can get little kits of wool roving to make tiny toy felted dogs — so cute. I bought a few bags of roving (that they use for felting) and am going to bring them home to spin…

Ok! Off to find some coffee now!

Glad that my list has been somewhat useful. One of the girls at the Tokyo SNB found a spinning shop in Kichijoji but I haven’t been yet. Spinning’s not all that popular, but it does exist. Try to get to Avril if you can, it’s a beautiful store. Enjoy Tokyo and let’s hope this weather improves!!!

Sounds great! I still have to get up to Tokyo for some craft shopping, maybe after I have some savings… I’m headed out for hanami now! Just hoping that the rain will hold off a little longer. Enjoy the rest of your visit!!

I haven’t had much time to peruse blogs in a little while, so I just noticed you completed that pink sweater. It’s very beautiful and that is one fabulous shoulder seam. I’m impressed.

You’re getting more laid-back and I’m getting much more anal. Before I was more likely to leave things, now I’m more likely to rip back and fix things. The reason I never did it before was because the thought of re-knitting a big area or undoing a difficult seam and trying again was mind-numbing. Now I just toss the project aside for a week or so and when I come back to it, it’s fresh. For Mariah, I need to rework the hood. I can’t do it right now, but next week I’m goign to rip what I’ve knit and then the week after that I’m going to get back to work on it. Otherwise I’d never wear it and never re-knit.

Have fun in Tokyo! Future travel plans include Tokyo for us…right now it’s in our imagination only but who knows what kind of finances we’ll have in years to come…I would love to spend some time there.

Now that I see your post, I remember you talked about going to Japan in the spring — silly me. Glad you’re having a good time and look forward to all the great pics. And Highgate looks amazing, by the way.
