Stashful in Seattle

Ok, so you want to know what I bought in Seattle. Mainly, I tried to find things that I couldn’t get back home. I wanted to see if I could pick up a copy of the new Rebecca 29 — no luck. I also wanted to buy the GGH Soft Kid for the Rebecca 29 cardi — no luck. Also interesting, not a single store I visited carried even a hint of Phildar although every store carried Debbie Bliss and Jaeger. It was ironic that a store named “So Much Yarn” didn’t carry Rowan at all. But stuff like Classic Elite yarns, including La Gran Mohair, very common in all these shops is basically non-existent in Vancouver.

So here’s what I picked up:

Plymouth Baby Alpaca DK

Unfortunately, I just looked (read the label, silly) and discovered that this yarn is hand wash only…but it’s beautifully soft and I’m going to make another baby bonnet for another friend’s new girl.

Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock

Why we don’t get Lorna’s Laces in Canada, I just don’t understand. It comes in gorgeous colourways, but here are the ones I picked up: Cranberry and Yellowstone. I had to really resist the urge to buy more lavendar coloured sock yarn.

Jaggerspun Zephyr in Lilac

Mmmmm! Zephyr is a blend of merino wool and Tussah silk — I’ll be making the Paisley Shawl from the Spring 2005 IK magazine with this. $15 of happiness.

Rowan Kidsilk Haze in Dewberry

I know, I know, more Kidsilk Haze? When I haven’t even attempted to knit up the other 9 balls I have? Oh, but I love this colour and couldn’t help myself. It was there next to the fully finished Karis…how could I say ‘no’?

Jo Sharp Rare Comfort Kid Mohair

Ok, this is what I bought to substitute for the GGH Kid Soft — kind of a dusty, muted lavendar. I don’t know if I love it so we’ll see. Maybe I’ll order some GGH Kid Soft from Rikes and be done with it.

Ahh…all in all, not a ton of yarn, but stuff I will really enjoy. Now, I will do my best not to buy any more yarn until we go to Japan!

Oh my gosh Felicia, your pictures are amazing. I can’t decide which ones I like the best~ the food or the yarn. Both are yummy. I love the colors of all the yarn you chose. Gorgeous.

Wow…….what yummy yarn! I recently bought the Lorna Laces yarn in yellowstone as well. It so reminded me of Spring, that I just couldn’t resist.

Gorgeous yarns, but you always get gorgeous yarns. Better bring an extra case to Japan, I see you filling it up quickly. Also Japan will have some of the best beads out there.

Jaggerspun Zephyr is such a GREAT DEAL! I was at Stitches West and bought 3 balls of it because I couldn’t decide what color to get! I got Lilac, Black, and this awesome blue that looks like the shade that Karis is done in. I’m definitely going to the Acorn Street Shop when I’m in Seattle in July!

Sounds like you had a lot of fun! I wish I could go there now!

Wow, Felicia - your colors absolutely sing. I can tell you were in a lavendar-blue mood! That LL is gorgeous. As far as I know there are only a few stores in the country that carry Phildar - it’s very hard to get in the states. I’ll be eager to hear about your mohair-for-soft kid sub….

Lettuce Knit in Toronto is now selling Lorna’s Laces :) Although they don’t have that amazing cranberry colour, I’ll definitely be asking for them to get some in on the next order!

I like getting away to Vancouver for the same reasons you like coming down here! Just a short trip but it really feels like you’re on vacation. Perfect for a change of scenery. Glad you enjoyed visiting the LYS. Phildar is hard to come by. The last time I bought any was over the internet from a store in the Netherlands.

Ooh, everything looks so lush. I’ve been eyeing the Zephyr. I’m so glad you took a picture, it is the best one I’ve seen so far and helped me make up my mind to buy some of my own.

There are such wonderful yarns out there, I am not surprised that you have built up such a huge stash. And I felt so guilty with about four or so unfinished projects! But having decided this was the year to get on with them - they’re all stored in boxes - I was horrified to find that a pastel pink yarn had discoloured. So my questions are - how are you storing your yarns and how long do you take to work through them? ps, Felicia - I’ve been knitting for years and years but do you know reading your notes I’ve picked up more tips and advice than ever, thank you.

Oooh! I’m hyperventilating just looking at your gorgeous yarn purchases. I can hardly wait to see what you create with all these scrumptious yarns.

I was just wondering if you had thought of using the Kidsilk for the Rebecca wrap - I have three balls of marmalade and thought that might work (unless I have to double it).

Hello! I have a totally random question about the zephyr… do you know the yardage for each ball? I have 2 and I’m trying to plan for a pattern…

what do you think?
