Spring Stashing
Yes, I’m waiting for a few deliveries. Is it weird to feel anxious when you don’t have anything in the mail for you? I’ve ordered some RYC shade cards, the RYC Classic Caf?¬© book, the Jaeger Siena mag, an older Jaeger 4-ply book, and some more Regia (in Paris!). Of course, we’re all waiting for the new Spring IK and the new Rowan 37… So in the meantime, here’s what I picked up:

I love the sweater on the cover of this book — just trying to decide what yarn to use. AV Martina or not… Martina is pretty pricey at $15 US per ball, but it’s a merino and silk blend which would lend itself nicely to year-round wear. Ah, decisions decisions. I was a little disappointed that it wasn’t a DK-weight pattern — I have all that lovely Zara lying around, waiting for a nice pattern!

Ah, more sock yarn. Sorry, I couldn’t resist! I was in Homecraft Importers and they had this cute new sock yarn — I’m trying to say no to more self-patterning sock yarn, but it was a moment of weakness! Has anybody knit with this stuff before? How does it hold up?
Oh, and as if you need another reason to shop, go visit Adele at Passioknit — she has the new Spring Phildar preview up!
My last pair of completed socks were knit with the Online Sierra in the brown colourway. Since I’ve only worn them once, I can’t exactly comment on the wear, but I can say that the knitted fabric is fabulous. I’d definitely recommend this yarn.
I love your socks! I have that book, but I’m not sure what yarn to use either.
Hey Felicia,
If you can’t wait for IK to hit BC, I know Romni has copies.
Cool sock yarn!
Oooh…I just finished a pair of socks with the same yarn but with a different colourway. They are really nice fabric to wear
So many sassy patterns in the Vittadini book, aren’t there? With this pattern I’ve considered using doubled Rowan Linen Drape or Elann Highland Wool. Not sure about the gauge, but Lavold Silky Wool is scrumptious.
Hi..I live in the Vancouver area and I was wondering where you got the book from. I have been eyeing that sweater in magazine ads for months and I am just dying to get the book, but I didn’t want to order from the US. Any help would be great..thanks!
hi!
have you ever tried out the yarn from Knitpicks.com? They sent me a catalogue, they have peruvian manufactured blends, like merino and silk, and alpaca and/or wool, and every thing really cheap, like 110 yards for 2.00us, depending on the blend, I’m tempted to order, I’ve heard good things so far.
lovely socks! and that purple vittadini is gorgeous! i’m so glad you knit such lovely things, so i can knit vicariously through you while my lonely projects languish on the needles.
I loved that Adrienne Vittadini pattern too!
And I am going to get Regia in Paris too
parallels abound…
I’m a sucker for patterned sock yarn too. The sick thing is I buy it, and rarely make socks. I must have enough for 12-15 pairs of socks. I guess that’s why they call it stash…
I’m making that Vittadini sweater, right after I finish Zig Zag. I got the lavender Martina yarn for it, too. http://www.handworksgallery.com has a (semi-?) annual AV trunk sale where all her yarn is 25% off. So I leapt.
I’ve been eyeing that sweater too. I think it’s just stunning.
I have the same AV book. Been waiting to find the right yarn to knit anything in there. I love all the patterns in it. I just have to dwindle down my sock yarn stash before I start a sweater again. Only if I stop buying more yarn. It’s so hard to stop!!
I have the AV pattern and am thinking of using Elizabeth Lavold’s angora
What a gorgeous sweater! Zara would be a lovely yarn for this project…what colour do you have? I made a scarf in it and wow, it knits up NICE!
Just stumbled upon your blog and saw a familiar yarn and had to comment
So, I’ve made socks from that same yarn, and I do believe it’s even the same colour. Haven’t worn them much yet, but they knit up nicely, the pattern the yarn makes is lovely and the yarn seems nice and sturdy (but not scratchy).
Ooo I simply Love that colour of sock yarn. Can I ask where you bought it? I’m in Australia, so its not always easy to get these yarns, other than online.
take care Emma
