La “Cotton Candy”
Being cabled out, socked out, and maybe just teeny-tiny needled out, I cast on for the Bell Sleeved Cable Sweater from the Hollywood Knits book last night. I bought this La Gran Mohair a few months ago and it felt kind of rough and scratchy on the ball… but when you knit it up! Egads! It really looks and feels like cotton candy! I love it — it’s got a beautiful soft feel — and am so looking forward to wearing this! Bonus: it doesn’t shed at all!
It’s knit on US 13 (9 mm) needles so the work should go quick — I mean it’s literally the same number of stitches for the back piece as it is for one Highgate sleeve!

Do you have any pics of the sweater? I’m familiar with Suss and her designs but I’ve never seen this sweater before.
The pink looks lovely (I know the word is a bit contrived, but really, it’s the only word that fits!). I love that pattern!
ooh boy, be careful most of the patterns in hollywood knits, while lovely, are full of fatal errors. I tried that sweater and if memory serves the ribbing is off on some of the peices. For your own sake read her errata (on her website) and read through that pattern VERY carefully before you continue.
Very Pretty. It reminds me of cotton candy alright. It will be lovely. Hey what ever happened with your french market bags?
What beautiful yarn! I’ll have to look that one up…where did you pick it up? Mohair that doesn’t shed is like gold!
That’s so sweet… fluffy pink yarn is the best! I’ve never knitted with mohair before and am curious on what it’s like. Mona was telling me that it’s a pain to frog although everything is a pain when it concerns frogging
Lovely stash enhancement too and love the socks!
Thank you for pointing me to the increases/decreases website. That’s a lovely yarn you’re using. I usually avoid mohair because I find it is very scratchy, it’s good that yours isn’t.
so pretty! Can you please post a picture of the actual sweater from Hollywood Knits?
What a beautiful fluffyness!
oooo..pretty
Love your blog!! Nice looking - nice knitting - you have been added to my favorites..
Love all the pinks! I felt the same way about the Cascading Leaves socks, and didn’t do a thing about continuing the pattern. Yours look great though. Perfect color for that pattern.
That looks sooo pretty! Wish that my fiance and I weren’t allergic to mohair
I second Jackie’s statement about checking for errors. I made the tube top in that book and the instructions for the strap were ridiculous. Can’t wait to see it finished!
I recently knit this sweater and you are right about the construction of the sweater at times it’s a bit odd. I also made the turtle neck in the round (no seams) It looks much nicer and if you can avoid seaming go for it! The next suggestion I would make is to check the overall size while you are knitting. I knit it to spec and after I finished the back piece it was huge-it could have been a mini dress(I’m a short person 5′) so I really have to be careful on the sizing. I ended up frogging the back and re doing it in a size 11 needle and made some modifications in the row counts to make it fit nicely. So my advice if you have to frog is to put it in the freezer overnight in a ziploc bag this makes the whole process less painful. In the end it’s a great sweater very warm I wore it to New York over X-mas. Oh! and buy a cami to wear underneath because it’s see through. I love your site great pictures and I can relate to the new sock fetish.
I’m in the midst of knitting this sweater too and was highly annoyed about the omission in the instructions for the front cable — I was two twists into it, while engrossed in bad TV, before I realized that I should be thinking harder about the directions. I had my doubts about the neck, and will now rip the back out and knit it in the round. Thanks for the inspiration, and I’ll be following your progress closely.
Fluff, pink, must-be-soft, beutiful patternstyle - I must just agree with most people above and say: GOOD CHOISE!
this looks yummy enough to eat!
