Successful Saturday afternoon stash enhancement

My wallet is almost $300 lighter after this weekend. How could I resist the temptation of perfect merino wool? In Chocolate Brown, no less? We were at Yaohan and Aberdeen this Saturday and I picked up a pack of Filatura di Crosa Zara for myself (at the AlphaGift/Craft shop upstairs) — no pattern in mind yet but the yarn is DK weight so I’m sure I’ll find something I like! I also picked up a 10 skeins of Zara Plus (the aran weight version of Zara) for a couple of scarves for my brothers… Oh the Christmas knitting that I wasn’t going to get involved in! But happily, it knits up fast on my new bamboo needles…

Zara and Zara Plus! Mmmmerino!

Yes, that’s right! I discovered that Daiso now carries knitting needles! Lovely Japanese bamboo needles in regular and mini lengths for $2 a pair! Ok, their selection is quite limited and unfortunately there aren’t any DPNs but the needles that they do have a quite nice! You’ll have to bring some sort of a Japanese needle size conversion chart with you though since Japanese sizes are completely different from US sizes. The larger sized needles are in mm sizes.

Left: $2 needles and yarn from Daiso! Right: Japanese knitting magazines.

And finally, across from AlphaCraft is the Iwase bookstore, full of Japanese books and magazines. I bought a knitting mag for me and one with patterns for the DH. He flipped through and said, “Hmm, yeah, I could wear that” and that was that. For me, my magazine is mostly cabled sweaters very much like Rowan’s Vintage Style and Yorkshire Fable. I might just find something to knit with the Jaeger Luxury Tweed that’s coming.

Also in cheap knit thrills, knitters in the Lower Mainland can also head over to Dress-Sew (Hastings and Homer Streets) for aluminum needles priced at $0.99 a pair! I almost bought myself a set of size 1 DPNs there…

    Oooh very pretty.

I liked the swatches also. What is funny is I am working on arm gauntlets with these exact yarn overs.

Did you ever get that first one you posted to your liking? K

I like those eyelet swatches too. Which is which (K2tog vs SSK)? I think I prefer the lower one (in ecru).
