Ugh. Nasty mohair.

Thursday, September 16th, 2004

Yuck. The mohair I ordered arrived the other day and it’s UGLY. It’s “Eggplant” but doesn’t look purple at all. It’s more like an almost-black, non-black colour. Hmmm. Not what I was expecting. I wonder if I should go through all the trouble to make that sweater or if I should hide it in the closet until I can decide what to do with it.

On a happier note, I’ve been using the ball winder and it’s awesome! Since I’m going to start the Very Cherry sweater soon (as soon as I finish Audrey and Zara), I’ve been winding up my hanks of Colinette Point 5 and it’s looking lovely. I’m going to get myself a swift off E-bay this week too. Yay.

Back from Toronto, a suitcase full of yarn

Tuesday, September 14th, 2004

Lovely. We’re back from warm, sunny Toronto where the weather was a glorious 25 degrees everyday. Ah, to the start of a grey fall in Vancouver. Richard and I visited Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-lake last Friday and stopped in at Inniskillin. Very yummy Riesling had we:

So, during my week-long stay in Toronto, I tracked down four LYSes: Romni Wools, Knitomatic, Lettuce Knit, and Village Yarns. Well, Romni was so well-stocked that I went back three times for more yarn. An entire wall full of Rowan in full packs, shelves full of Debbie Bliss, Phildar, Jo Sharp… Knitomatic is an adorable shop with super-friendly staff. I ended up buying 13 skeins of Jo Sharp Silkroad Aran Tweed in a red colour from Village Yarns. From Romni, I picked up some Lamb’s Pride Worsted and Bulky, Phildar Sunset (for a sweater from the new Tendances magazine), and a ball winder! And finally, from Knitomatic I picked up some little kits for those cute flower washcloths and some Rowan Kid Classic in Reed.

With all that time on the plane and driving to and from Niagara, I finished all the major pieces of Audrey! I started the lace neckband on the plane back to Vancouver, but was too tired to finish… Hopefully, I’ll have it all blocked, sewn up and ready to wear next week! Yay, progress!

Ribbon Twist: delivered and swatched

Friday, September 3rd, 2004

Ribbon Twist in Ripple arrived from KnitNTyme yesterday. They are FAST. Plus, how ideal is it that they are in Canada AND stock tons of Phildar? Here’s my package (it came in its own plastic zippered bag!):

So I swatched last night… It’s supposed to be 8 stitches by 11 rows to 10 cm. But the yarn is a little unwieldy to use (it’s got a mind of its own) and I think in my efforts to wrangle it in, my swatch ended up a little too tight (I got 9 x 11 for 10 cm):

So, I frogged and re-knitted it, a little more relaxed and I got it!

Yay, now when I finish Zara, Audrey, and Cheesylove… I can start on Willow! Then I’ll just have my eyelash project, the bucket hat and the French Market bags to do… THEN I can start something for the DH.

Starting Audrey: few rows for sleeves, plus more…

Wednesday, September 1st, 2004

Ah ha, so I have started Audrey’s sleeves…working them both at the same time on a Denise circular… Hopefully this will save me from second-sleeve-boredom.

Oh and here is the progress on Cheesylove… I’ve started the increases for the body section… Funny, it looks kind of like the stitches are all twisting. I’m sure all will be ok when I block…fingers crossed!

These are the yarns I bought from Birkeland Brothers to make the French Market bag…one in blue and one in pink!

And here is the red silk needle case I sewed up last weekend (on my new Pfaff, love it! love it!):
